Ahhh, this could be why...

Writer Gets 'Desperate' After 'Madness'
August 09, 2004
For some people, "Reefer Madness" might only lead to a killer case of the munchies, but for writer-producer Kevin Murphy, it has led to a prime new television gig.
Murphy, who penned Showtime's campy musical spoof "Reefer Madness" with Dan Studney, has signed on as writer and co-executive producer on "Desperate Housewives," one of ABC's most anticipated new shows.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy will join series creator Marc Cherry and fellow executive producers Michael Edelstein and Tom Spezialy in shaping the storylines for the dramedy, which looks at four suburban housewives, whose lives get a jolt when one of their best friends commits suicide.

"'Desperate Housewives' is such a wonderfully grounded character piece about really relatable people in desperate situations, whether it's covering up their affairs or investigating possible murders," Murphy says. "It's a pleasure to make up stories for these amazing characters."
The series, which will air on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET, stars Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman.

Murphy recently finished overseeing principal photography on "Madness," which stars Alan Cumming, Steven Weber and Neve Campbell. His other writing and producing credits include stints on "Ed" and "Get Real."
