When you start the letter to them, should you use
Dear Firstname Lastname,
Dear Mr./Ms. Lastname,
or Dear Mr./Ms. Firstname Lastname.
Also, my brother wants to know "how can I send an actor a letter without coming off as weird or homosexual?"
Thanks =)
Of your options, I think the second one flows best and sounds... least weird.

Use whatever feels most natural to you. Truly, I doubt the recepient is going to care as long as they're being addressed respectfully.
And, honestly, the last question is borderline offensive.
How would the greeting of a letter make anyone sound homosexual?
But I agree with Emcee.
I was wondering the same thing about a presumed homosexual greeting. Hah. Just... don't say you're in love with anybody. =P
I'm about to start writing something like this, actually. It's something I've been putting off for a terribly long time, and I have no idea what to say -- but I kind of need to do it.
Oh no, the last thing I wanted was to offend anyone!!
Let me explain, my brother is 14 and he wants to write a letter to Aaron Lazar to autograph his playbill and he doesn't know how to write the letter so he doesnt sound like a weird little kid or like he has feelings for him, and he doesn't know how to put it.
It was not meant to offend anyone at all, and if you've been on here and you now about my admiration for Gary Beach & Nathan Lane, well I'm obviously not homophobic in the slightest.
Admiration of work doesn't really imply attraction, so I don't think he has much to worry about. Don't be squealy; be concise, but respectful.
Aaron Lazar is grown up and married. I doubt that, regardless of what your 14 year old brother might write, he will think he is being hit on by a 14 year old middle school student.
Yeah I told him he was being rediculous, but I figure I'd open it up to public thought.
Tell him the public things his worry is ridiculous, too. =P
This has (irrationally) made me even MORE self-conscious, if that's possible. Ah well.

Your brother might be gay and projecting a little. I remember when I was 12 and wanted to go see Culture Club but decided not to because "I wasn't gay." Well, I am gay. I think anytine someone worries about being percieved as gay might be a red flag. Also, a 14 year old boy sending letters to Broadway actors might be a tip-off (not that straight boys don't love theatre). I would say just be supportive and understanding and if he makes more commments that he's worried about being percieved as gay, make sure you tell him that gays are great and wonderful and you support them. Set the tone for him to come out if he is and wants to.
That aside just be sincere in the letter and it will be fine.

Remember to include a self addressed envelope of the correct size and with the correct postage on it.
It shows that you think ahead.
Yeah,I know.
Right now I'm just swamped trying to write the letter without sounding like a psychopathe.
Why are you doing your brother's fanboy homework for him?
He's not on the site.
I mean, why are you WRITING it for him?
Your 'brother'. Sure...lol.
Just kidding.
Jeez people, I am not writing a letter for him!
I've got my hands full trying to work out this letter to Gary Beach so I don't sound like an idiot, let alone worrying about Aaron Lazar. =).
Haha. Otherwise a lot of stuff I said about his letter wouldn't make any sense.
Ho would a letter greeting make someone sound homosexual?

I was at a stage door once and someone shouted to the actor by calling him Mr._______. The actor turned and replied "thank you for calling me Mr._________." I assumed he liked being called Mr._______ and not just yelling his first name. I'm sure it's not a big deal to most actors what you call them, as long as it comes off respectful.
I can't remember who it was, that's why there is no name attached.

when i was in 3rd grade, i sent a love letter to farrah fawcett.
last week, i sent a love letter to mary birdsong.
i forgot my point.
That was still a nice story n69n =).
Yeah, this whole writing a letter one of your idols without sounding like a nutcase is tougher than I thought. =/.
P.s.
Does anyone recommend I put a return address on the self-addressed envelope, or no?

NO RETURN ADDRESS!!
I've had awful experiences with putting a return address on a self addressed stamped envelope. I once sent a letter to Bruce Willis and when I got my self addressed stamped envelope back, it had been torn open and the contents were gone.
Oh my god,
Thank you SO much for telling me that.
No. return address. on. the. enclosed.self-addressed & pre stamped. envelope.
=) <3
**Wait, so when I get it back there will be no return address on it?
