Posted: 3/5/12 at 6:06amThere is no word yet--it's a brand-new world premiere play by a playwright who's never been produced in New York before. Performances haven't started yet so no one has seen it.

An earnest dud.
Three men in failed marriages live in dilapidated cabins in the Nevada desert, 1954. A mysterious fourth joins them. He has a past that offers the possibility of some dramatic fireworks, but the firecracker never fires.
Lots of talk, none of it dramatic or interesting.
The only vitality to the proceedings is offered by Adriane Lenox, as the no-nonsense proprietress of the place.
Nicely designed and lit.

pardon the coarseness (or at least the directness) of this question: any of the four men gay?
(or, it being 1954, homosexual?)
feel free to keep it high-level if the answer risks a spoiler.
thx!

Posted: 3/12/12 at 11:21amToo Bad. We have tickets for the end of April. I was hopeful that it would be good. I thought that I read somewhere that it had a bit of humor but it now sounds like it is a bit boring???? Bummer!

(Minor spoilers included) Has a very talented cast including Adriane Lenox and a big-name star from Gilmore Girls. The cast works well together and you really get to understand everyone's personality and why they are in the middle of the Nevada desert. Issues of racism and Communism are explored. Also a lot of laughter (at appropriate moments) from the audience. Very well-done drama and a great set design too. The very last moment of the play (where the picture is taken) is very sweet. 2 hours 3 minutes running time. I would recommend you give it a chance. You won't be disappointed.

Posted: 3/20/12 at 6:38pmGoing to this Saturday's matinee. MTC has some interesting productions in this theater.

Saw the matinee today, I thought it was incredible! Ansel Elgort (Caleb - the main character) has a commanding stage presence, which is uncommon for such a young actor (he's a senior in high school) - and that matter *a lot* for this character.
The rest of the cast (especially Adriane Lenox) pull the rest of it together and make this a play definitely worth seeing. I'd like to see more come of this play than the limited MTC run, I really think it could find an audience.

I saw it today also and it was unbelievable great. I loved loved loved it. (I was the one who asked the first question about Ansel). Ansel is a senior at Laguardia HS here in NYC, look out for him, he will be a star.

I was sitting right behind you :)
I made the comment that the show is universal after the gentleman said that the show can't ever find an audience outside of those who were alive at the time. I'm 33 and it resonated with me!

Posted: 3/24/12 at 7:23pmDoes anyone know if there was ever a P2P student discount for this show? I got the email about the $30 under 30 deal, but since the tickets are on sale through the City Center website I figured I would check and see about P2P. Thanks!

Vagabond- have no idea about student discounts or any other ones.
jds - I brought up that point about future showings since I would hate to see this wonderful piece of theater disappear forever. Does MTC ever 'promote" their off broadway productions to Broadway if they get great critical acclaim?
Anyone know of any plays that this happened to.

Posted: 3/25/12 at 6:13pm^ I don't think MTC has ever done Peer-to-Peer, but they do 30 Under 30. Also, the have moved successful Off-Broadway productions to Broadway... like Doubt.
