DanStudney: How awesome to hear a reply from the man behind the magic (mushrooms?) himself! I gotta say that I've turned on (heh) A LOT of my friends to your amazing brownie-scented DVD over the years and "Mary Lane" is probably the most fun and catchiest musical theatre song since "You Can't Stop The Beat"! I can't wait to hear what HEATHERS is like and the cast sounds amazing! I must say that in reference to your partner Kevin Murphy, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES no longer bears his name on the credits (has he left the show?) and I must say it has taken one of the biggest creative/dramatic/thematic nosedives of ANY tv show in recent memory, it's absolutely horrendous and has been almost all season. Jumped the shark, I must say... and I thought the time-travel conceit was a brilliant concept, but the execution has not been what it could have been. Anyway... Good luck with the new shows and please keep us updated and share any tidbits of new stuff if you feel so inclined!
BlueforBroadway: Do yourself a HUGE favor and get the 2 DVD set of the miniseries, they are availible for about $5 you can also get them cheaply online, the main reason being you get deleted scenes which when combined with the 6+ hour film is essentially ALL of the novel dramatized PLUS a commentary by king himself and steven weber (in the same room) which runs the entire 6 hours and provides real insight into the creation of the novel (and new film) and a charming rapport between the two.
Kubrick's film is Kubrick's film... a rumination on the themes of the novel, perhaps, but mostly his own creation that ultimately proves to be an altogether different, but equally effective, ghost story.
I love Kubrick's audacious film as a filmmaker, but as a literary fan I really appreciate an almost exact realization of the novel on film for posterity (written by the author himself) because it's a great story and the miniseries provides me with that if I want to jump into that world.
And Rebecca De Morney, a SEVERELY underrated actress, was FIERCE in this as she was on the brilliant but canceled JOHN FROM CINCINATTI on HBO. Has she ever done stage work? She had some BRILLIANTLY bitchy and bitter monologues on JFC.
Dollypop, GREAT article!

P.S. I have read every King book (and most of the criticism) and ROSE MADDER, in my opinion, is his most memorable novel... much in the same way I prefer THE WINTER'S TALE to anything else in Shakespeare, to compare two author's whom I've read completely. Private, daring and magical are three words I'd ascribe to both works.

Interestingly enough, I have so much unused material from my conversation with Steve, that I could pretty much do another article about him.
He was great to work with.
Dollypop, why not put the conversation up as a podcast, perhaps? Or do you have the conversation typed out? I'm sure itd be fun to read the unedited interview as Mr. Weber is always an irreverantly funny but thoughtful subject... I'm sure others here would love to read the scraps leftover as well!

I'd definitely be interested in reading more!

Hmmmm... good suggestions here.
Great article again! Between this and your piece on Michael Cerveris, I look forward to reading more.
I'm seeing The Philanthropist tomorrow night and now I'm more interested than I was before. Weber was on one of my all-time favorite shows, Studio 60 and I'm happy that I will get the chance to see him on stage.

Aren't we planning a BroadwayWorld picnic in the next few months? We could invite Steven and his family to join us and he'd be more than happy to answer your questions. Of course, this depends on his schedule and availability.

Thanks for your kind words, frogs-fan. Didn't you read my Jerry Herman article?
I will go back and rectify that right now.

Dollypop...I didn't know you could write like that!(sorry, but from what get to read on this board from you...nat that literary!).
For anyone who has never seen "Wings", they missed out on pure fun! This was one of my favorite shows, and I loved ALL the actors in the show, which is rare. The main secret of the success the show enjoyed, was definitely the talent, no doubt!
Steven...I had the biggest crush on him, of course
Loved his style of acting.
Would LOVE to see him in The Philanthropist!
