Does anyone know why Renee left the Color Purple? I noticed on her website, she does not even mention it in her biography. Any inside scoop?

I believe she was pregnant and planned to leave but had a miscarriage.

Thanks BSoBW. I'm sorry for her loss, I've heard her sing and she is amazing. I wish her well.

She deserves to go back in. I loved her replacement, but with her there as Nettie, it felt special.

oh, that's sad she had a miscarriage
i also wish she could go back in- i bet she was great!
She performed at the daytime emmy's and was amazing. You can catch her on just about every day on One Life To Live...
She's beautiful and talented. And she was just nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award last week. So I'm glad she's continuing to have successes.
I loved Renee on the cast recording and was very sad I wouldn't get to see her, but her replacement Darlesia Cearcy was fantastic. Strong voice, strong acting... everything Nettie should be.
And yes, Renee left due to her failed pregnancy, but that wasn't the only reason. Supposedly, the producers at "One Life To Live" scaled back her storyline for her to do the show but wanted to bring her character into a major storyline that would have involved more filming and more time away from TCP, so they were rumored to have asked her if she could cut her run short.
I too hope she eventually returns, though!
She was fantastic at Broadway Under the Stars a couple weeks ago (and a few days ago on TV)!
I didn't get a chance to see her in The Color Purple, but she was fantastic in Two Gentlemen of Verona last summer.

"she was fantastic in Two Gentlemen of Verona last summer."
Yet Rosario Dawson was the only person anyone seemed to notice, save Ben Brantley who expressed admiration for Renee. But it seems that Renee is finally getting the props due her.
I love her, almost to the point of obsession. Anywho, I wish she does get to do it again, I was lucky enough to see her and wish to see her again.

Foster, the Daytime Emmys were awhile ago. She was my favorite part of The Color Purple. Well, wouldn't working there full time just mean missing the Weds matinee. This is time - wise, not energy or stamina.
From what I understand, she knew she was pregnant going into TCP and had already scheduled herself to leave the show because she'd be significantly along that she couldn't do both. But when she miscarried, she decided to keep to the scheduled exit.
Oops, I don't keep up with Daytime TV...didn't realize the Emmys were a while ago.
Brandon Victor Dixon is on a soap opera too, isn't he?
Only just recently. He joined the cast of OLTL, same as Renee.
I saw Renee 3 times in Purple and Darlesia twice...I think Renee was far superior in both acting and vocal departments, and when Mister says how much prettier she is than Celie, you actually believed it.
