For the 10th Anniversary Concert for Les Mis, a CD and DVD were produced. Do you think Rent will get the same treatment (especially if the movie is a hit)?
*crosses fingers*
Not likely.
Cameron Mackintosh produced the LES MIZ extravaganza and by showing it on PBS it gave the Broadway run a shot in the arm when box office sales were starting to lag a little. But MIZ already had a mass following that RENT does not have. RENT is certainly a hit but its following is a more limited fan-based "cult" rather than a show that has permeated the national consciousness. It was not a success in London or Toronto and even the road tour has performed erratically...doing well in some cities, not so good in others. Also with the movie coming out now (and likely out on video by the show's anniversary next April) the film producers would most likely resist if not completely thwart any attempt to market a competing version.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
They could certainly raise more money that way.
Not sure I understand..raise money for what? RENT is not a charity. PBS would probably not go for a RENT in Concert because of language and subject matter and fans would be outraged if a single word was bleeped.

It would be nice, but unlikely! Fan base is too small...(no offense, I love the show!)

Aint that the truth!
I wonder if CHICAGO will get anything speicial for their 10th Anniversary coming several months after Rents.
With a motion picture of the show coming out this month, I doubt they will market a separate product that features most of the same cast. While I would love this to be on DVD, I think it is doubtful that it will ever happen.
I'm saying that the 10th Anniversary concert is a benefit for three separate organizations (which explains why the tickets cost so much -- whatever they make has to be split three ways). So, if a recording were to be made, proceeds from the DVD's could also be donated. I meant that a recording would be a good way to raise more money.
There IS a 10th Anniversart International Tour... but its not like a BIG thing!
Is it going to be the entire OBC? Are like, Rodney and Giles and all of them going to be in it too?
Presumably so.

mandi moo, are you asking about the tour or the benefit? Those cast members will not be in the tour. The tour cast has already been announced and there are no OBC members in it.
ruthiefan, the tour and the benefit are two entirely separate entities.
No, I was asking about the benefit.
I know who's going to be in the tour, and it sounds like it's going to be great. :)
has anyone revceived their "save this date" cards yet?
Nope - the invitations will not be mailed until February or March 2006 so probably the save the date cards will not be sent until December or January?
