To everyone who is like "dressing up is stupid" and "you're going to look like freaks." I just want to say this. Its FUN! It is a way to get even more into the movie. And I can say we are all going to have a lot of fun dressed like "freaks." I could care less what people think. Im a little theater dork and I know it. And I close this off saying, Im going as roger. I got awesome plad pants and a sweater jacket type thing that looks like the one he uses. Im excited.

Okay, this is kind of unrelated, but I can't find the topic on here anywhere and I don't want to re-post it.
About the screening on the 22nd at Symphony Space, do the $75 tix include the afterparty or post-show Q&A? Thanks!
what i seem to remember
everyone inivted to q&a
no on the after party
Eah, dressing up is fun. If it's not your cup of tea, just don't go to those midnight screenings- that's generally where the dressing up occurs, if at all.

RENTheads and Star Wars freaks who dress up to go see movie premiers should be put in a rocket and shot into the sun.

Wax Lion wonders if they make little teeny-small rockets for 4" wax lions?
Love,

Some of these people are starting to make me hate this movie already - kind of like what happened with WICKED.

I don't think there's anything wrong with dressing up. Sure it's a bit strange, and I don't plan on doing it...but wearing costumes to movies has gone back to the days of the westerns when kids would dress up like cowboys to Roy Rogers movies. Then there's Rocky Horror, where it's weird NOT to dress up. More recently, I remember people dressing up for the Hedwig premier, complete with the big foam wigs, Wet Hot American Summer inspired people to dress up like they were at camp, and now, Rent. The Star Wars people scare me because they actually believe they're in the movie, so as long as you know you're not really Mark and Maureen...go ahead.

Heh.
That comment came out a bit nastier then I intended to be. I was trying for something sarcastic and naughty, but yes, it did come out rather nasty. I do apologise.
i'm going to see this at symphony space first. i won't go 10 feet near a multiplex inhabitated by irritating little rent-wannabes because i know me if i hear one person "moo" or start singing out loud with the movie i will seriously make that person regret the day they decided to open their mouth.
Urban, I got the sarcasm in your initial post, and quite frankly, it made me laugh.
Marquise, I'm with you on that one as well!!

Thanks Dottie.
The shot in the sun was actually an old South Park reference, and thus a part of the joke, I guess it was way to obscure, plus it is difficult to bring across sarcasm on the internet. I know, no excuse, oh well. I actually think RENTheads are pretty nice people for the most part and are great debaters when I play the devil's advocate.

How will dressing up attract more people to the movie?
Sooo... just getting a headcount for mission control... that's me and Wax Lion heading for the sun, yes? I'm sure they have special seats for passengers of more diminuitive statures, don't worry Wax Lion.
Urban, I got the sarcasm and laughed aloud at the image (and the reference... yay South Park!). I'm not really dressing up... just my scarf that resembles Mark's. I'm expecting to see people go full-out, though... and if it makes the movie more fun for them, then more power to 'em!
On the moo-ing... that's something I absolutely expect. Probably more than just at the opening night stuff, too. It's always been an audience interactive moment...

just be subtle and wear the scarf, the other rent head will recognize you without running.
i think the entire idea is like by dressing up you're saying that "i knew that rent was before now" i dont think that that makes you cooler than the people who saw the commercial and juts thought that it looked like a good story

You know I have to admit, if people don't moo in the cinema, I'll be disapointed.
Wax Lion, you can share my rocket.
Alli, I think only the $150 tickets include the party.
I'm scared.
I am planning on seeing the film at midnight in New York after seeing The Light in the Piazza so I'll probably be wearing a suit.
I guess you can say that I'll be dressed as Mr. Grey.
Seriously though, I am a little scared to see the 15 Marks and 27 girls in catsuits.

I think what scares me is innappropriate body types(ie extremely overweight people...or 12 year olds) wearing the cat suits. I dunno how many times I've wanted to vomit at the 200 lb Janets at Rocky. Ewwww.
Hey all...
I, too, am guilty of having fun at movie premieres:
LoTRs - I went as a Hobbit (wearing sandals so I was allowed in)
Star Wars - My friend went as Chewbacca with creature makeup that made him look more like "Teen Wolf" - I wore a red suit and carried around a Yoda puppet I had made - Before the movie started we got the theatre going with Wookie calls, it was nuts!
RENT - I am going to be wearing a sweater of the Mark sort. It is not maroon and blue, it is actually black and maroon. They opted not to use it in the American production, but it was used in the Original Japanese production. The Nederlander has been kind enough to let me wear it, so keep an eye out for it in pictures!
Now, I must return to my dorky life...

You guys are crazy. Of course you have to dress up to go see Rent. I mean, it's only natural to carry over the time-honored tradition from the stage show.
I gathered together a bunch of my friends and we're going as all the characters. We're bringing a big sheet with us so we can recreate "Contact" in the lobby before the movie.

i am proud to say that I will be there with 7 other people, and we are all dressing up as a different character. And I will be Maureen in the catsuit. Cant wait!

I see nothing wrong with dressing up... my original plans of seeing the show with my friends and dressing up (I was going to wear my RENT shirt, Doc Martens and carrying this cow purse thing... subtle but fun nonetheless) were ruined b/c my mom decided we're going away for Thanksgiving so I have to go see the movie with her... I'll just have to wait until after opening night to do that... Alls I can say is I can't wait until the movie is almost done with theatres and I finally get to see it with no one else and the theatre and can feel free to belt out the songs to my heart's content...

I am not going to go all out, I am far too lazy. I will be appearing with a Mark scarf which I am knitting as we speak.
