Rent.. FINALLY!!

Hey everyone! I just returned home to Sunny Florida after a weekend in New York! I finally saw Rent, and I loved it!! I had been hearing how great it is, and now I have to say that I agree!! The whole cast sang their hearts out!! They all were so great! I have to say however, that I was not too impressed with Drew Lachey. I am not saying he was bad, just not as good as I expected. Anyway, if anyone has not seen it.. GO NOW!! I think I was probably the only person who had not seen it though. Ok, Im done.. LOVED IT LOVED IT! BYE:)

I've heard nothing but bad things about Drew Lachey's acting ability. I've heard his singing is mediocre, but he can't act his way out of a wet paper sack.

Yea.. I dont really know how to describe his singing. It just wasnt... broadway quality. I still loved the show though.

Glad you loved the show, though Drew's performance yesterday at Broadway on Broadway was enough to make me want to strangle myself. I posted elsewhere about him, and if I write about it again, those feelings may return. It's always such a shame to me that a show as wonderful and meaningful as Rent has to sacrifice that meaning and bring in "stars" - namely, incapable ones - like Drew.

It's true. Saw him yesterday... I missed Matt. That was my second time seeing the show, and several of the cast members had changed since I saw it on August 7th. I wanted Matt and Jai back (I know Jai was a temp. but he was so awesome!). Krystal was really good though. Better than Mel, I think; better voice quality anyway.
It was good to see Jeremy though. He's so amazing... And a cool guy too. Met him after the show.

Um... you guys bitch about Drew not being able to act, but many of your beloved Rent "Gods" an't act their way out of a wet paper bag either and you don't say a word.......

Jon Larson's original choice for Mimi before Michael Grief went for Daphne Rubin-Vega. WAY too old for the role now... voice grows more grating with time.


I HATE gearing comments like "She is such an amazing actress! She was crying during "Goodbye, Love!"

I've only seen Matt Caplan out of the people you mentioned. The only thing I can say about him is that he's better than Drew Lachey. I need to see it again! But whatever. Only thing I really care about is that Jai was fabulous. Justin is too masculine and doesn't go after the high notes...

karmine has said during interviews as recently as last month that Jon wanted HER as Mimi, but Grief wanted Rubin-Vega and Yas Alers as a swing.



By the way, at least Drew is easy on the eyes...... that is one positive more than a lot of the Rent cast members have.

I believe in her bio, she lists that she had previously worked with Jon L. on other projects before he wrote RENT.

Hmmm... that's interesting. Well yeah, he is cute, but I'd rather he could act. Jeremy and Destan are pretty cute. I didn't like Justin, but (being redundant) Jai was adorable.

I'm not just trying to slam Drew... I was just offering my opinion about what someone else said. Personally, between the two casts I saw, there was enough there for a decent cast.

I hate to say this, but I have never viewed a Broadway star as good if they are "easy on the eyes". Drew's not that good looking anyway. I've seen RENT numerous times, let's say, and I don't understand how you could say "the RENT gods" can't act. What, aren't they as visually pleasing to you as poor miscast Mr Lachey? aww...too damn bad. A majority of the people who I've spoken to who saw Drew in this show were terribly disappointed...can you tell me those people are wrong just because they didn't like it due to Drew being cute?

I never said Drew could act. And MANY "rent Gods" over the last few years have been AWFUL actors and singers.... I was just saying that at least Drew is easy on the eyes.... I wasn't saying he was better.
