Does anyone have any idea where in New York the Rent movie is going to be filming? I heard that the exteriors are being filmed in NYC within the next month or so and then they're moving it to San Fransisco for the interiors, but I want to know where they're filming in NYC so I can go!

anthony told us that they the shootings will most likely be closed, so it would be difficult to go and watch.
i believe the SF interiors are being shot first. i may be wrong, but i know the cast is there for rehersals. the NYC exteriors are being shot ON LOCATION, so probably somewhere in the East Village.
hope this helps...
maybe they will shoot at the life cafe.
I read in an article with Chris Columbus that they were shooting in New York first so they could get the snow and winter-type stuff, and then move onto San Fran. later on. I don't know though. I'd definitely like to go to the shoot in New York if anyone knows where it is.

yes, i guess that would make sense. although snow can be created for movies. (and that is usually easier, as it isn't as cold while the actors and crew are outside for hours)
as i said before, the exteriors are being shot on location, so thats probably where you should go.
i asked anthony if la vie boheme will be shot in the life cafe, but since he's in thailand he hasn't answered me yet...
Do you generally talk to Anthony on a regular basis BEKA531?
I've never seen the show, which I would like to soon. I do, however, have the OBCR and I'm just praying they keep "Over the Moon" in the film! They can't get rid of that!! hehe

*i* don't talk to him personally, he posts on the "welcome, anthony rapp" thread. it's probably a couple of pages back, we pretty much leave it alone when he isn't here.

they won't cut it. it's too crucial to the storyline. most of the second act (the riot, etc.) couldn't happen without over the moon.

OTM isn't necessary, its the protest that is necessary. However, I highly doubt they would cut it, as its Maureen's time to shine.
BEKA, I miss our movie thread lol

i do too! would you like to revive it and see what happens?
In my opinion, OTM is necessary. It is referred to several times before it is performed. It would be strange to keep hearing about Maureen's performance and Mark helping to set it up and then not seeing this performance they have been "singing" about.

EXACTLY. well said, uncageg.
also, this is maureen's big entrance. she is referred to, talked about, and talked to throughout the entire first act (well, first half of the movie), but you never truly see or hear her until OTM.

Uh, unless something changed or I missed something, Columbus' screenplay that is on the internet includes OTM.

Sorry, this doesn't exactly relate directly to the film, but...
I was contemplating purchasing the original broadway cast album. It's somewhat expensive so I was wondering what you guys thought, is it worth it? Are there enough good songs. I wanted to get it, but I wasn't sure.

Run to the store right now and buy it. Go. Now.
Yes.
You will love every bit of it...it is the recording that I always go back to and will NEVER get tired of. The ENTIRE thing...don't cheat yourself with the highlight album. Spend as much money as you must, but everyone who does not have this 2disc recording already is missing out on life. I'd give you mine, but it's mine. Enjoy!

Thank you rentaholic. I wanted to see the show so bad when I was in NY in September. I was with really conservative family members, so I avoided the awkwardness I know I would've experienced. I will definitely get it then.
I know how that feels Elvis. I went with my good friend and our moms (we're 13), both of which are conservative. You should have seen their faces during contact.
Does anybody know if the SF filming is going to be closed as well?
It probably will be - I mean, people would be all over the place if it were an open set.
Anyway, whoever started this thread (I can't remember your board name) love your avatar. That's you and Adam Pascal, isn't it?
I want to be an extra! I want to go to that movie set every single day and do whatever is needed to get me in. If it means taking off my clothes, so be it. Lol.
LyTeMyCanDyl good luck with becomming an extra! I want to go to the set as well but i have a gut feeling that it will be closed. Boo Hoo.
Elvis- I too HIGHLY recommend the COMPLETE OBCR of Rent. I personally thought it was worth every penny. Its my absolute favorite cast album (though, Les Mis is still my absolute favorite show... its a first love thing, ya know?). The entire cast is great. I personally love the songs. I still can't believe how much I listen to it... its fantastic. You should get it. And, I hope you enjoy it!!!!
