Well, there's certainly a different personality, that's for sure. ![]()
CB is extremely honest, candid, and just has a low tolerance for anything bordering stupidity, which I don't think is all that bad.

Posted: 6/24/04 at 1:23amDefinetly go see it. It is my favorite musical (tied with "Phantom of the Opera") and I saw it on tour earlier this year. It is amazing. My girlfriend, who does not like musicals all that much, loved it....and that is saying a lot.

Posted: 6/24/04 at 6:16pmSaw it twice in Boston, enjoyed it a LOT. The cast is fresher than those who've been performing it on Broadway for years, so I think the energy level is higher. Especially if you've never seen Rent before, seize the opportunity! One thing though, I'd recommend reading the synopsis and maybe listening to some of the music before seeing it, since it's almost completely sung and can be a little complicated. A friend of mine didn't do this, and was confused the first time around, then saw it a second time and liked it much more.

Posted: 6/24/04 at 6:42pmThe only thing I should point out is that the tour sometimes suffers from the venue. I saw it here in Toronto when it played a 1900-seat theatre. We sat mid-mezzanine, and the show was completely lost in the cavernous space. If you go, make sure you get tickets close to the stage.

Posted: 6/24/04 at 10:25pmi saw the tour yesterday and it was good stuff. although, almost the whole cast is leaving next month so youll be seeing totally different people then i did. but def go and def rush! no need to buy 70 seats when you can sit in the first row for $20!

Posted: 6/24/04 at 11:14pmI didn't know the cast was leaving. I saw them about a month ago. They were amazing. I enjoyed it more on tour than on broadway, in some respects. Go see Maggie Benjamin as Maureen on broadway, if you can. If not, I guess Leslie Diamond, or whoever she's being replaced with, will have to do. The cast was great. Do familiarize yourself with the show first. I had the recording almost memorized before seeing the show on broadway. While I'm not sure I recommend that, do listen at least once. If you don't listen to it, read a synopsis. It is definitely necessary.

Sorry to bump this thread up again, but now that the west coast dates have been announced and the show is coming to Vancouver, I'm actually interested in this thread. :)
I think the "new" cast is starting some time soon or has already started. Has anyone seen anyone from the new cast, and if so, any thoughts? I checked on compulsivebowlers but there's so much inane natter, that it's just easier to bother everyone with this thread instead.

Do you know the dates and location of Rent's run in SoFla? I did not see it on the official Rent Tour website.
Thanks!

Posted: 7/17/04 at 9:05pmI think some people on Compulsive Bowlers had mentioned it but I can't for the life of me find it. Will PM you once I do though! (I could be wrong, but I'm thinking it's in eaerly 2005, cuz I think it's covering most of the west coast until at least late fall.)

Alrighty, I'm one of those nasty compulsivebowlers, so I guess this is my area of expertise. Here's what I recomend.
Listen to the OBCR all the way through but STOP before the finale. Don't spoil the end. This way, you'll get the (rather complicated) story but it won't spoil the fun of losing your Rent virginity.
The tour cast has changed now, it's a brand new group. rentthetour.com hasn't been updated yet, though. Any questioned can be PMed my way, I'm happy to help :) And I realize that people here don't generally like CBers and vice versa, but we're not all that bad. Just lurk for a few days to get the feel of the boards before posting. And don't start a petition to get Roland banned. Bad things have happened to people who make their dislike for Roland known.

bmeonbway: the thread on CB that mentioned FL was on:
http://www.compulsivebowlers.com/boards/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5014&start=80 so if you weed through the posts, you can probably find the dates.
CB is a good place for getting in-depth Rent info (I've been lurking there for a while), I would just be too chicken **** to actually post there for fear of being flamed. I'm learning to like Roland though. I just cringe very time he signs his send off to the newbies (F**k off, Roland), because of the inevitable, "Why'd you say that? I was just asking a question!" and then the bitching begins. :)
