Rent Tour To Go On?

is the rent tour going to continue beyond the cities they have booked. I was just wondering, because I want to see the live, but I can't see it on this tour.

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

I'd like to know the answer to this to, cause the closest it's coming to me is Washington D.C. and I'd really prefer to just have to make a 10 minute trip to the theater in Baltimore than to the the theater in D.C.

While the show itself will continue touring, Adam and Anthony probably won't extend with it. They may throw in a few more stops in the schedule, but I highly doubt it.

ok that is fine with me. Is this tour Equity, if it is, will it switch to non after they leave.

No. Because the rest of the actors in it will be equity!

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

What are the odds that EVERYONE will leave at the same time so that they can turn it into a non equity tour? I would assume that maybe, given if this tour is successful, they would let the leg of this tour end and the next leg would go back to being non-eq. But it would not happen mid tour.

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

You totally don't get what I am saying.

Adam and Anthony Leave
They are replaced.

Then, everyone's contract is up and the tour switches to non-eq

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

I'm going to guess once the tour with Adam and Anthony is done then that will be it for touring productions of Rent for a long time.
Rent's future is going to be making money via licensing the rights to regional theatres and it is easier to do that without the restrictions an on-going tour would cause. They will do this farewell tour and that will be it, besides the last two times I saw it on tour it didn't exactly pack the house, so without Adam and Anthony, I doubt it would be worth it for the producers.

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

So what if it turns Non-Eq again. RENT is a pretty stationary set so you won't get cuts there & the talent is the same quality. They just haven't had their big break yet.

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

Supposedly the non-equity tour last year was more profitable than the Broadway production was last year...

Incidentally, I think every time I've seen the non-eq tour, it's been sold out.

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

^ I saw the non equity tour and IMO it was better than the one on Broadway which I saw 3 times.

It's more profitable since the houses are smaller? Even though where I saw it is a big theatre.
Don't believe everything that you hear! Only the peeps involved know the truth!

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

Touring theatres are generally MUCH larger than Broadway ones.

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

The tour cannot turn into a non-equity tour when they leave unless it is terminating in its last booked city. Then it has to be "re-incorporated." They can't just simply hire non-equity actors and replace the equity actors.

As for profitability, the non-equity tour was more profitable because a) road houses generally have 2000-3000 seats compared to the Nederlander's 1232 seats; and b) non-equity performers don't receive anywhere near the $1509/week, and with RENT's low running costs it really has more ability to make money than its Broadway counterpart.

re: Rent Tour To Go On?

This tour will follow all it's bookings as planned. Then it will close. And it's VERY likely that NETworks will resume touring a non eq version again, because it's a show that consistently does very well for them.
