Rent in Theaters

So I got an email from the Rent News letter inviting people to the Taping on Rent on August 20th. But aren't they suppose to tape the final performance not one of the final performances. This sorta defeats the purpose of putting the final performance in theaters.

This is probably an extra filming session to be used for editing purposes later.

I've read that only the closing night extras will be taped on closing night. The rest will be taped ahead of time.
So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

I wonder if they will do a lottery for that day.

Well that's a rip. They have people believing they were going to see the final performance.

Eh --- close enough- --- and this is coming from a huge Rent fan.

re: Rent in Theaters

It makes complete sense for them to do an alternate taping so that the show can be edited and presented properly. If they only tape the final show it could end up being bad and a poor representation of Rent overall. What if someone falls or flubs a line?

It doesn't surprise me to hear that they are taping more then one performance. I get the feeling that they are going to tape one performance a couple of weeks before closing night and then tape the closing night show as well. Then they are going to edit and mix and match and bring that version out into movie theatres.

That is what MTV did with Legally Blonde. They taped the show twice and mixed and matched and edited it all together and that was what got shown on MTV.
