Not going to happen with HP opening. There is just no way it can complete with that behemoth.

No HP will definately be number one for a few weeks, I can see RENT as being a respectable #2. It has a big following.

I dunno, each HP movie does less and less buesiness, so i'm hoping it will be #1 for the first week, but when RENT opens it can take over that spot I'm simply a cockeyed optimist!

Everyone HOPES their movie opens at #1 in the box office. They want the movie to do the best it possibly can. If it happens to open a week after a huge blockbuster movie, than I'm sure the producers won't have a heartattack if it only reaches the lowly #2 slot.

Comparing a blockbuster movie's opening weekend gross to any normal movie's opening weekend gross is just ridiculous, so don't even try with that come November.

i'll personally be going to both movies on their respective opening weekends.

this will proove to be the best Harry Potter movie of the whole lot, and well, it's rent, i can't not go see it.

I dont think HP is going to do super well since the rating of PG-13.. a lot of kids' parents wont let them see it. I personally think a lot of adults, teens, broadway fans, and hardcore rentheads like myself will go see it, and HP will wait..

it will push it back in the box office, but i dont think it will stop people seeing it.

and about the mark scarf, my friends making me one for my birthday/halloween costume. shes making it fringe-free though...oh well, the fringes would prolly bug me anyway. the tour photo im referring to has no fringe, and ill be really happy just to have it, so im not heartbroken. and were gonna attempt to make the sweater, as well. ive got a maroon shirt and a baby blue one, and were gonna try to literally cut and paste it together. sure im destroying 2 good shirts, but id prolly wear the mark one as much as possible, hehe.

for halloween me and my friend are going to dress up as mark and roger, i'm being mark, so i definitely need to start on my scarf/finding a shirt. Only problem is that i dont knit, so i need to learn and then make it...only for rent haha.

lol, same as me and my friend. im going as mark, shes going as roger. shes knitting the scarf for me and shes prolly gonna be doing most of the sewing, since i cant do either and would be too afraid to ruin it

I originally felt like them moving the opening date for RENT from the 11th to the 23rd was kind of bad judgement, but hey, if they think we'll be able to beat out the HP kids, I'm all for it.

I don't think it will affect who will go to see Rent. My friends and I are going to both movies. Obviously HP will be number one, but I do believe Rent will do very well.

I really dont' see HP taking any audience AWAY from Rent. Sure it'll do better the box office, but HP's a big global phenomenon (sp?) and any movie would have a hard time unless it was also a big, family based subject matter with a giant following.

Personally, and I actually just planned this tonight, the group I'm going to the midnight screening of Harry Potter with just made plans to call around for a midnight (crossin' our fingers) showing of Rent so we can go to that together too. Everyone I know is going to both, so...only difference for me is I wouldn't take my lil sis to Rent, but I'll prolly take her to see HP.

The ADVANTAGE is that if you have people who are just wanting to catch a movie on a Friday night, they are definitely more llikely to see Rent if they HAVEN'T seen the first 3 HP flicks or read any of the books. No one's going to just go catch...well, not even a sequel - the 4th installment of a movie they haven't been following, so there's always that advantage...

I don't think it'll take any audience away from Rent that it would have gotten in the first place, y'know?

HP is still going to be huge. The promos are just enthralling for starters! But, I can testify that when I went to a B&N release party to get my HP6, the VAST majority (and the store was packed) of people were adults...not just teens, etc.
You've got to remember that the HP fanbase is growing up and it's not like IDs are checked for PG-13 movies.

That said, I will be seeing both, but I really can't see RENT surpassing HP at all that week.
