Hi everyone,
I have the amazing chance to see the OBC perform live at Nederlander for Rent's 10th anniversary fundraiser. I love Rent but I've never (believe it or not) been to Nederlander. These tickets are WAY expensive and I can't choose my seat, so....
Does anybody know what seating is like in this theater? If I'm in the very back row or sitting in the very worst seat, is it worth it? Will I be able to see/hear or should I save my money and get good seats to see the current cast in a regular performance?
Thanks!

Well if you are able to spend the money on the seats, I would go and sit wherever I am seated. It will be one amazing performance. If you havent seen the show live yet, then I would also spend money on tickets to a regular performance since the anniversary show will be a "sing-through."

It is just a concert.
The invitation says
One-Time Only Concert Performance

Which means no stage set? No costumes? No dance or performance numbers?

Everyone keeps on talking about them releasing a 10th Anniversary DVD but wouldn't it be kinda boring to watch a concert (or is that what they did with Les Miz too)?

They might wear costumes, but I imagine no dancing and choreography.

Oh man! Is that the definition of "concert performance?" I'm sorry-- I may sound stupid, but I don't attend Broadway plays often and never a concert performance...

The choreography, the enegy, is half of Rent.... especially when it comes to La Vie Boheme!

And at $1000 a ticket, a medicine bottle full of ectsasy should be included with each seat to compensate
If you've never seen Rent, honestly, just go to a regular performance so you can see the costumes, choreography, staging, etc.

I could have sworn it was going to be a full performance. But, either way, it'll be a great show.
And, if you have read Anthony's book, you'll know that the cast can't just sit there and sing through, they'll have to move around!

I'm disappointed that it's just a run-through of the songs, but I hope that, as in the preview directly after Jonathan's death, they won't be able to just sing it through for long.
I'm wondering if they're planning on just singing the songs, or also the bits not included on the recording (i.e. Mark's "We Begin..." introduction, and narrations throught the show.)

I was just thinking that righe before I read your post.
I agree with many other people. I think you've gotta see the show with the set, costumes...etc...to really appretiate the energy and life of the show. If you easily had $1000, I'd say go for it, its a once in a lifetime chance. But, I think it'd be smarter to pay 100$ or whatever the price is to fully enjoy the whole thing.

I'm surprised that anyone who hasn't even seen the actual show would have any interest in going to the benefit concert. Anyway, to answer the original question, the Nederlander is a medium sized Broadway theatre and you can see well from pretty much anywhere. The rear mezz seats are very uncomfortable, though, with absolutely NO legroom. Paying $1000 for those seats is crazy, even for the OBC.
Yes, it's a concert version, which means no actual 'show'. It would be impossible for the cast to come in for one show and actually go through the show itself, with blocking and choreography. They haven't done it together in years and they'd need a long rehearsal period before that, which none of them has time for. It was never intended to be a reprise of the show, just a concert.

I have read Anthony's book and I was thinking the same thing. I honestly can't imagine Rent's energy won't move them..... like they're going to just stand there during La Vie Boheme.
Still, $1000 ($1500 after I pay travel and hotel expenses) for something less than the full play? Even if it is going to the the OBC and a fabulous experience and a party afterward.... God! Now I don't know what to do.

I am just MISERABLE because my invitation hasn't arrived yet!!! WHAT'S THE DEAL?!?!?!?! arrggh
I just got mine today.. I'm still not sure if I'll be able to go. I'd give my first born to see this, but the money is still an issue.

I'm counting on La Vie Boheme, if nothing else, to make them start to move around. I understand that they wouldn't have time to do any rehersals, so it would be a little ridiculous to stage the whole thing, but they can do *some* of it, can't they?

Okay, so according to the event marketing coordinator listed on the invitation, the exact format of the show hasn't been worked out yet. But....
It will be a concert performance-- not the whole play. Apparently that could mean a few different things, but for Rent 10 it means no full set, no choreograhy, and only a "selection" of songs. The director hasn't decided on the details yet, like wich songs will be included.
So that does it for me. I would pay thousands to see the OBC perform Rent again, even with the worst seats in the house. I'd pay some amount of money to see the OBC perform a "selection of songs" and have decent seats. I can't justify it for a few songs and bad seats.
That's the same set up as the 5th Anniversary Concert.

That had a 5th one? Good... so maybe they'll have a 15th. And by then I'll be able to afford several seats and not care whether it's a concert or the full play!
i'm gonna try the lottery with the rest of manhattan, but in any case, i would DIE if they filmed it and made a dvd out of it. that would suffice for me.
