Christine Ebersole would be great in the role, IMO.

Isn't Christine Ebersole quite busy with the tv show "Related"? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Sharon Lawrence is a great suggestion!

Of course she can sing and dance - she was in the national tour of ZORBA, CABARET (1987 revival), and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (1990 revival) both on Broadway.

And, she played Velma in the current CHICAGO revival.

I think Nancy Opel was Muriel in some of the staged readings. . .she'd be great in the part.
