qolbinau: The Broadway Cast Album of "Company" was one of CBS' first recordings using their new SQ quadraphonic 4 channel process. The vocals were isolated and recorded on separate tracks to achieve this mix. Since the London production of "Company" included virtually the same cast as the Broadway one, including Larry Kert, the CBS engineers recorded Kert's vocals and simply substituted them in place of Jones on the existing Broadway orchestral tracks. The song "Barcelona" is the only new recording on the London Cast album since the one cast change in the London production involved this song. I have heard the original LP and own the briefly available Sony CD that was released only in England and there is no trace of Dean Jones' vocals to be heard in the background. The recording has a lot of the fake reverberation that was common in 1960's recordings and the delay reverb of Kert's own voice in the mix may be what is mistaken for Jones in the background. Since the orchestral tracks were recorded isolated from the vocals, they were clean enough to use for Kert's replacement vocals, which are marvelous. That does not diminish the fact that, regardless of how it was accomplished, Kert's performances of the songs in Company have never been surpassed, not even by Raul Esparza in the new production and the only record we have of this is the London album, which deserves to be released on CD here in the States.
My Avatar is the amazing young singer, James Anest
monestere, I'd argue quite adamantly that the Pearl Bailey recording of HELLO, DOLLY! features significantly stronger vocals than the Mary Martin one.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Carollee was in Mamma Mia for a ridiculously long time. She is the 'official' Donna in my mind.
"There's nothing good on. The media hates Christmas. The media loves vampires, though. Maybe they will show a Twilight Christmas." -Danmeg's 10 year old son.
Shannon Durig as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray should have been recorded, because was one of the best, if not the best Tracy on Broadway.
I wish the final cast of Spring Awakening had been recorded because I adored the voices of several of them and wish I had an 'official' recording of them.

^ Well, Hunter Parish sang in the "iTunes Live From SoHo: Spring Awakening" recording,

I'm the only who who likes him. Honestly though, his voice crapped out towards the end.

^There's several posters on The Guilty Ones who agree with you, not many, but a few. I just hated his entire portrayal, because how I saw it, Melchior's journey never truly occurred when Hunter played the role.
I saw pretty much every Melchior on Broadway (with the exception of Jesse Swenson) and they all took this journey from a boy who thinks he knows everything to a boy who realizes he knew nothing, and Hunter just never gave that. Plus, all the other young men who played that role seemed radical in every sense, while Hunter was only a radical in his bedroom.

I think it's a sin that there's been NO official recording of ANY London Avenue Q cast! There's been some absolutely amazing casts since its opening! I think Hairspray or Jersey Boys or Wicked should've gotten a OLCR as well! I personally think the OLC of The Producers should be filmed!
