Going to see "Into the Woods" next Friday night for our anniversary, and looking for a good place to eat before hand, preferably not too far from City Center (we're also staying in the area)... possibly slightly upscale, but not super expensive. Suggestions??

Our go-to favorite in the area is Trattoria dell’arte. If you want to eat outside, try La grande boucherie.
+1 for Trattoria Dell'Arte.
Also Redeye Grill (same owner as Trattoria). Russian Tea Room is also in the area.

The Old Castle Pub and Restaurant on W 54th Street. Better than a erage "pub grub" in a friendly and comfortable environment.

That area is a bit of a dead zone for restaurants. But Quality Italian (57th) Oceana (49th) Momofuku noodle bar ( in time Warner center) are all good.
I second La Grande Boucherie. The outdoor section is the alleyway but the high ceiling and decor makes it look quite nice and excellent air circulation.

Topaz Thai on 56th St. is pretty good.

I second this, especially if you’re looking for dependable Thai food at reasonable prices.
Also highly recommend PizzArte on 55th. I believe it’s only indoor dining, though.

I love Pazza Notte Right near City Center, casual, and delicious.
