I don't think Steel Magnolias counts as a revival being that this is the first Broadway production of it. But, that was also the same case with Assassins and Little Shop...there has been no announcement of how it is going to be judged yet.

And I can almost guarantee that Spamalot will get a Best Musical nod over Spelling Bee. It has a nice score as well...wouldn't be surprised if they walked away with it as well.

I noticed no one mentioned Eden Espinosa. Just because she is in "Brooklyn" doesn't mean she won't be nominated. I think she could be up there for Best Actress...

Eden cannot act!
Not well enough to be considered up there with Victoria, Sutton.
Eep, actually, there aren't many leading actresses.
Can Sherie Renee be considered a lead?
Is her name above the marquis?

Well, hopefully, the category will fill up, and people who can ACT (yes, acting is important in a musical) will get a nom.
Or they don't have to fill the category.
They didn't nominate Bernadette for ITW even when there was an extra slot open.

We shall see.

Good for Borle. I'm glad to see he's getting attention, so he won't have to live in shadows of his SO SF.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

Locks for Best Actress/Musical: Clark and Foster.

Possibilities: d'Amboise or Applegate for Sweet Charity, Jenn Gambatese for All Shook Up, Eden Espinosa for Brooklyn, Erin Dilly for Chitty, and possibly Sherie Renee Scott if she's not considered for Featured. And I'm probably forgetting some...

I REEELY want Norbert to win but fear that David Hyde Pierce may effect the voters overly much.
HEY! isn't Mr Marc Shaiman (et spouse) Tony nominators this year? Mebbe he can give us the benefit of his ummm "insight"? (yeah yeah thats the woid!)

I would not be foolish enough to predict nominations until I have seen all the shows. Some productions have not even opened. I again urge those who play this prediction game to remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It has been doing great business in a huge theatre in London for about 3 years. It will outlast all of this season's shows no matter how many Tony awards/nominations it might receive. I really think Chitty will follow Beauty & The Beast which lost to Passion. I like to see members of our community working not just winning Tony awards.

Well, Reckless and Sight Unseen were both ruled revivals, and both works were new to Broadway. I imagine Steel Magnolias will be deemed a revival as well.

My Hopes for the Nominations (* means who I want to win, #means who i tihnk will win):
Musical - Spelling Bee*, DRS, All Shook Up or The Light in the Piazza, Spamalot#

Actor - Norbert Leo Butz*#, Cheyenne Jackson, A Spamalot guy, Raul Esparza, either John Lithgow or Daniel Davis

Actress - Sutton Foster*, Victoria Clark, Jenn Gambatese, Sherie Renee Scott#, and whoever opens Sweet Charity

Featured Actor (i really liked everyone here and cant call a winner yet) - Dan Folger and/or Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Christian Borle or another Spamalot guy, Dennis O'Hare, Micheal Benjamin Washington, and either Gregory Jbara or Mark Price... this is a very tough race

Featured Actress - Celia Keenan-Bolger*, Sara Ramierez#, Maureen McGovern, Leah Hocking, Joanna Gleason

I'm really hoping Sara Ramirez at least gets a nom for Featured Actress in a Musical (she should totally win it too). I'd love to see GV get at least nominated for a few things. It had an insanely talented cast. I think Tituss Burgess might actually get a nom. And I want it to get a nom for Choreography too, but I have a feeling that'll go to La Cage. Sutton'll get Best Actress in a Musical, I think. And Actor...I don't know. Most of the new shows this year have more male parts than female it seems, so we'll see how it all turns out.

Jenn Gambatese deserves a nod before Eden.

Tituss Burgess will not get a nom, nor does he deserve one, but I thoroughly enjoyed him and his performance and hope to see more of him on stage soon.

No songbook musical is going to get a nod for book. Even All Shook Up. I don't think so. Not in a season with DRS, Spelling Bee, etc....

No matter what the thread means-- hopes or thinks, I cannot understand how people can make predictions about or discuss a show which hasnt even opened yet! To do so simply makes this thread a popularity contest for certain performers based more on their past performances than their current competition. Let's wait and see all the nominees in this year's productions and then voice intelligent opinions.

first of all, adn im probably going to be reamed for this.... i really wasnt that impressed with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels... i thougt the book was fairly weak and Yszbek did a much better job with the music in Full Monty. I wouldnt be so sure that it is a lock for all the top awards...

Infinite - i think that if a jukebox musical does get a nomination in one of the top categories, it would very well be in the best book category. IMO, the book of all shook up was much more impressive than that of DRS. Many people judge jukeboxes before they even see them... i really hope you wouldnt do the same

Okay! Here are my final predictions fpr Best Actress in a Musical following the recent events:

Victoria Clark
Erin Dilly
Sutton Foster
Jennifer Gambatese
Sherie Renee Scott

Since Sweet Charity has been canned, these will most likely be the Best Actress in a Musical nominations. Gamb will beat out Espinosa's chance. Erin Dilly will most likely be thrown in the mix just to make five. And did we find out for sure whether or not Scott is Featured or Leading? If Scott is Featured, then look for Espinosa to be added as a filler.
