"For example, if I should paint my fingernails green -
and it just so happens I do paint them green. Well, if anyone should ask me why, I say: 'I think it's pretty!'"
Was excited to hear Ana Gasteyer coming to NYC because I just loved her singing the Wicked songs on the Chicago clips that were available on the Net. I saw her tonight, and I was thrilled. Ana Gasteyer sings wonderfully. Loved her. While I think Idina Menzel was a little stronger in the acting and dancing department (esp. in that little bit where Elpahaba and Galinda do a little pas de deux), Ana's singing just sounds healthier and fuller than Idina's, without sacrificing the belt sound that the role calls for. Also liked the optional higher notes she took in her duet with Fiyero.
Also liked the new Glinda, Kate Reinders. Last time I saw the show, it was with Jennifer Laura Thompson, who had trouble sustaining notes and singing them on pitch. Kate has a really nice tone to her voice, and she sings sweetly. My only criticism is that her acting is a little too hyperkinetic. She went beyond what Kristin Chenoweth did. But I guess I am biased toward Cheno's interpretation, especially Cheno's performance on her last day.
