So the other night I went to the Pantages to see Molly Ringwald in Sweet Charity because my friend was obsessed with Molly so as a birthday treat I took her.

Well The show started and it really didn't need the first scene for you to feel sorry for Charity. This was because everyone already felt sorry because the theatre was half empty. The tour was just not put on well. No merchandise...little hype...just not done well. Parents were bringing 10 year olds because they had no idea what the story was about. The sets where fantastic I have to give it that. There were no good singers in the cast (including Molly) and the dancing was ok. The costumes were pretty boring. The actors didn't really put their all into it either, maybe because no one was watching. I did not enjoy the tour that much. You forgot characters names moments after the left the stage because you just didn't really want to follow it.

The thing that REALLY UPSET ME was how Molly acted at the Stage Door. My friend and about 5 other people waiting patiently for Molly to come out. My friend wearing her Sixteen Candles shirt was wide eyed the whole time someone opened up a door on the other side of the locked gate. At about 11:45 (the show got out at 10:30) my friend was leaning against the gate when it started to open causing my friend to fall. Then out of nowhere a white car jets in nearly hitting my friend. The gate closes and the car goes into park. About 15 minutes later Molly runs out to the car purposely not looking at the few people waiting for her. Gets into the car and it goes out. Molly covered her face from the crowd with her Hand Bag while they past us.
I looked sadly at my friend who was crushed and said maybe she is just shy...

I'm glad you posted this because I was going back and forth over getting tickets to see it in Seattle this weekend, but now I'm thinking that I'm going to save my money for something better. Did you see the show at the Paramount? It's funny to see/hear such little hype for Sweet Charity when two weeks ago there was such a musical theater buzz in the city with Wicked there. Yeah, Molly Ringwald is a star, I suppose, but I think she could deal with saying hi to five fans. Or at least just smile and leave without covering her face with her handbag. I mean, come on...

I saw the show at the Pantages. Yes she was very diva. I was suprised. Really broke my friends heart. She could atleast wave from the car. Even Ellen Degeneres waves from the car every morning to the crowd waiting to get tickets to her show, and Ellen is a much bigger star then Molly.

where did the Molly Ringwald we used to love go?! I mean, it seems like some of the celebrities that are cast lately(ie Ashlee Simpson) let their supposed fame go to their heads and not realize that they wouldnt be there if not for the people who eagerly waited for them at the stage door(aka their fans)

*le sigh*

Yes, and there were different types of fans at the stage door that night. One guy had seen Sweet Charity on Broadway and loved it so much that he had to fly out for the tour. He brought his poster that he got every member of the Broadway revival to sign (including esemble) and waited to tell Molly how much the show ment to him. Then there was my friend who has seen one musical in her entire life and wore her Sixteen Candles shirt to tell Molly what an inspiration she was to her. re: Review: Molly in Sweet Charity

she was probably soo ashamed of her performance she wanted to avoid anyone who wanted to pelt eggs at her. lol. i mean she was just gastly. I loved the sets, the ensemble, the dancers.. but molly was miscast.. what is it with this show being cast with mediocre actress'? oh well.. i saw at the pantages too and it was half empty.. go figure.. I bet the nederlanders are waiting to roll in the Lion King.. i know i am..

I am now feeling very bad about Sweet Charity being in my subscription here in Baltimore after hearing about this incident in LA. I hope either Miss Ringwald has a change of heart by April, or that her understudy goes on when I see it.

I think she covered her face with her bag so she didn't have to realize no one was waiting for her.

That was really mean of Molly. She could at least say hi to the five people waiting for her!

Still, as bad as it sounds I'll go see it if it comes near NYC.

I saw Sweet Charity this past Saturday afternoon.

I was soooo embarrassed for Molly. Everyone else in the cast was very good.

The photo in the ads for Sweet Charity shows a MUCH thinner Molly Ringwald. The person I saw on stage was more like Baby Huey with a bad red wig.

My advice for all those sitting on the fence about buying a ticket? Save your money. Buy the original Gwen Verdon cast album and enjoy it.

maybe she was covering her face in shame? why on earth would they send this on tour? the producers are lucky it survived on bway as long as it did (btw i saw it twice and enjoyed it strictly for the performances of christina applegate and charlotte d'amboise).

That's very interesting.

Because in CABARET her performance (in my eyes) was wonderful and she couldn't have been more of a sweetheart at the stage door.

A friend of mine had to back out of seeing "The Lion King" here in Denver last week and I gave my ticket up. (Have already seen it) We decided that we would see Sweet Charity because she knows how much I loved the Broadway production with Applegate. Now I am having second thoughts. Maybe I will just get us tickets for something else she had already paid for her Lion King ticket, so I didn't want her to have to wait too long to see something else.

Many things happen in people's lives. Even actors. She may have been having a bad day, or week, or month, or tour. But one show doesn't define a whole career. I've seen footage of her and she seems a bit out-of-her-depth, but not MelanieGriffithaweful.

There will come a day when she will feel sad/embarrassed/self-loathing/ashamed about that Olsen twins exit. She'll want to say she's sorry. Let's just accept her advance apology and move on.

We'll always have "Pretty In Pink."

I'm going this weekend in seattle. See, I'm quite glad I read this, because I've read in other places that she is less than kind at the stagedoor. As cheesy as it is, I'm a huge fan (I'm an 80s movie nerd, what can I say) But I'm not some crazy fangirl either. I was looking forward to this since the tour was announced, but after reading several times that she won't acknowledge people I doubt I'll even bother to stage door.

>>>"The tour was just not put on well. No merchandise...little hype...just not done well."<<<

I'll have to remember that the most important part of putting on a good tour is to have lots of merchandise.

Thanks for the tip.
