WHAT!!!!i heard this song on the radeo and i am so mad!
it sounds JUST LIKE the fiddler on the roof song if i was a rich man!
IM SO MAD!!!! >:O
It's supposed to. I think it's so strange.
Well it's obviously the same song...it's been recorded before by pop and rap stars, I forget who. I hate her version.
One of the worst songs I've ever heard, embarassingly bad. I guess I don't really get why she's singing, "if I were a rich girl"... she IS a rich girl!! Is she trying to be funny? I don't get it.
the lerics are the same(almost)and fiddler is getting NO credit!

I didn't realize all pop songs were supposed to be autobiographical. I must have fallen behind somewhere...
Liam, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick get credit for the song in the "L.A.M.B." liner notes.
Liam - it's clearly based off of the FIDDLER song.

im not a fan of gwen stefani. the songs not bad but she is just a little weird.
I think Gwen Stefani is amazing, brilliant, and gorgeous. I'm not crazy about her new CD, but I'm a huge fan of her overall work.
Munk, you and I don't always see eye to eye but THANK YOU for being the only person, besides myself, that realizes that this version of Rich Girl HAS been done before. What you forgot to mention is that Stefani ripped off what was a *reggae* version almost note for note, riff for riff. I was still in A&R when that was about the biggest hit in club land and I'm very curious as to why the original cover artist isn't making a stink about it. Not a fan of this album either. To me, Stefani has been desperate to be Madonna all along, under the rocker babe guise, now it's all out there, once and for all. Crap album, IMO
Well she draws young people to hear a song from a musical...so thats always good....it would be cool if she would mention the fact that the song comes from "fiddler" more often.
Anyone who knows of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF would know that it's from the show. If she randomly said "This song is from FIDDLER ON THE ROOF," the people that don't already know that wouldn't care, or have any idea what FIDDLER is.
AlDente- THANK YOU! I also think Gwen has been copycatting Madonna almost step for step.
Also, I think C Aguilera is a bit guilty of it too, replacing her bad-girl look (Madonna circa 83-85) with the Marilyn Monroe look (Madonna c. 87). I'm waiting for Christina's interpretation of the Like a Prayer era.

I think the song, and the whole album for that matter, is FANTASTIC! She wants to be Madonna? Pah, why would she climb down a rung?
I'm really dating myself with this but let's take Madonna in the "Live To Tell" video, if Stefani tried any harder to look like Madonna from the aforementioned in her "Don't Speak" video, Madonna could have probably sued for image infringement. As for XTINA, at least she has a voice.I think XTINA has followed more closely and deliberately in Mariah Carey's footsteps. Stefani even sounds exactly like Madonna and always has. That same "Mickey Mouse on helium" thing. She's always struck me as a poseur.
Well everyone obviously has their idols and role models, but that doesn't mean she's copying Madonna, or trying to become famous off of what Madonna has done. There are, obviously, strong comparisons between the two (glamorous, rock-ish, rebel image, BLONDE,) but in my opinon, that's it. And any similarities between the two wouldn't exist of Stefani wasn't blonde...regardless, of the mentioned similarites, I feel they are all just coincidental and not malicious. Did Madonna ever have a clothing line? And Madonna was never in a band.

For a good Fiddler parody, check out the CD "Fiddling with Tradition" by the comedy rap duo "Two Live Jews".
They are actually two young comedians from Miami who did a parody of Two Live Crew's "Me So Horny" called "Oi, It's So Humid". They were made up as two old Jewish men. The album was titled "Kosher As They Wanna Be". The Fiddler parody was their second album. Later albums were "Disco Jews" and "Christmas Jews".

Actually, Madonna was in 2 bands. Emmy and Breakfast Club. She left when someone offered her solo demo work (I think Jellybean).
Again, I'm dating myself but, Madonna was actually in two bands that were very different than what she wound up becoming famous for. They were EMMY and The Breakfast Club, respectively.
LOL AlDente.
I just turned 30!
