I really enjoyed Richard and Caissie in the London production, and while Sharon was great, her songs and scenes are just so much bigger and over the top than the relationship between the two leads, I think that's what made her stand out. There's plenty of actresses that could deliver respectable performances with Oda's role. Hopefully the time that Richard and Caissie have put into their parts will allow them to convey the emotion they need.
I'm hoping much more that they change up the choreography. Every group number felt exactly the same in London.
This is fantastic news! We were completely blown away by Caissie's performance. I promise that you guys will not be disappointed. I'm sorry that Sharon isn't coming over, but it might be exciting to see an unknown breakout in such a big role.

It's a shame Sharon wasn't able to transfer considering American Equity allowed James Corden and the rest of the core cast of One Man Two Guvnors transfer to Broadway. Wonder who'll be exchanged from Broadway? I'm guessing Tyne Daly and Zach Braff as both are appearing in the West End next year.
Just in case anyone has any doubts, I know her very personally, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph is hands-down the single most talented person I have ever met in my entire life.
She has something that can not be taught. She's a star. Get ready.
"I still can't believe Richard Fleeshman is only 22... he looks way closer to 30."
He's been reading BWW.
If I'm to understand this correctly, Caissie Levy has her U.S. citizenship (even though she's Canadian-born). She's been doing U.S. Equity shows for quite awhile now. Extended runs, too.
Chances are, this "union swap" was worked out well in advance, with the assumption that "Ghost" would eventually transfer to the U.S.
In other words, the British Equity concession allowing Levy to star in their production was given with the deal being that Fleeshman would subsequently cross over and do the U.S. production, should it ever come to pass. If not, they would find a suitable parallel transfer to the U.S. with some other "British import" actor.
While it might be a surprise to some here, this was probably always the plan from the beginning, at least with the unions.
I loved Caissie in the show - Fleeshman not so much.
I think the New York critics will be unkind but the show will run anyway. With the exception of some dire moments in the first act - "Ball of Wax" has got to be excised - the show really does work. The audience I saw it with absolutely lapped it up.

That's not a serious article, is it? To say that the show is "awful" based on just 2 minutes of video footage is absurd. This is also the same site that says that the Iron Lady will be bad, just based on the politics of it's title character.
I have to agree. I'm not a huge fan of Ghost from the cast album and clips--but to watch a preview and complain that the songs aren't instantly memorable and how awful it is is pretty ridiculous. Especially to then end the article saying he felt the same of Sister Act and now apparently loves it...

It's as serious as any article on Gawker is. They don't think it's literally going to kill you, but I agree that from the video it looks just terrible.
I think the point about the Iron Lady isn't that the movie is going to suck because of Thatcher's politics, but that they fear it's going to venerate her when she's a pretty nasty character.
Right. I think that several of the songs are memorable. I regularly hum "Suspend My Disbelief/I Had a Life" to myself, not to mention those songs were the best Act One closers in recent memory (for me anyway). Maybe this "most awful type of musical theater treacle" can be hummable!

Jesus Christ, okay.
Fair enough, it's hardly a post by a major theatre critic. If we're going on about "tunes you can hum" though I have to admit I think the songs in the trailer are pretty memorable--and in this case I don't really mean that as a complement. So it makes the criticiswm stranger to me (I often find, though, that much of my less favorite "show music" is instantly memorable :P )
I think "Nothing Stops Another Day" and "With You" are two of the most amazing songs to come from a musical in recent years.
With You is excellent.
I think one of the stronger aspects of GHOST is the music, but that's just me I guess...

"With You" is a great song, and I think Levy brings a lovely amount of honesty to it (albeit in a pop-contemporary dialect).
I think if "Jar of Hearts" had been in this show, "With You" could have been the song that "Jar of Hearts" was on top 40 radio.
Fleeshman is hotter than hottie mchotterson. Absolutely beautiful. But he's too young for the part of a up-and-coming Wall Street guy.
One of the best Broadway ballads to come down the pike in a long time.

I just listened to that YouTube click. Gorgeous song.... and Caissie sang the hell out of it (that's good, by the way...) Color me interested.
