Posted: 1/14/04 at 11:33pmI think it's great the judge is letting him do Hairspray while he's on trial. I think Robert Blake's a bit old for the part, but the presumption of innocence is strong!

Posted: 1/15/04 at 10:18amI saw him when he was standby for Radames in Aida. Granted, I was disappointed at not seeing Adam Pascal, but he was really good, and I could definitely picture him doing a good job with Link.

Posted: 1/15/04 at 12:38pmBoth the Link and Corny replacements are doing a super job. The cast loves them as do the audiences.

I saw Richard Blake as Tony in Saturday Night Fever on tour. Of course, Tony was originally played by James Carpinello, who was in rehearsals for Link in Hairspray, before leaving and being replaced by Matt! Small theatre world.
I also saw Richard as Radames. He was no Adam, but really good.

Posted: 1/15/04 at 1:55pmI will be perfectly honest, Richard H. Blake is the one casting choice I have been unhappy with as far as Hairspray goes.. I have never liked Blake in the shows I have seen him in

I agree bg2. I also can't picture him being a heart throb...sorry if that offends people who do like him but I just do not know.

Posted: 1/15/04 at 2:22pmto be honest, i saw richard and the new corny yesterday and they are amazing... the new corny is HILARIOUS...he is A LOT different from clarke...but, he is super confident and has a good voice. Richard to be honest...it's PLEASANT to listen to him. After a while, Matt got on my nerves when he sang because he had a huge lisp when he sang his "s's". Richard has a great voice...while I admit he is still getting used to the role, he looks like hes been doing it for longer than 2 days.

Matt has a lisp? never noticed. I know richard sounds good. BUT I just can't picture wanting to run home from detention to turn him on..sorry mean I know.
How come they didn't offer the part to someone in the cast I wonder?
I know jonathan is good I saw him in tommy and met him actually, I was in high school then and we had a meet the cast. I LOVE his voice.
what different things does he do, would love to hear?

Hey, I just realized that I saw Richard in AIDA in December understudying for Will Chase. He was good and he looks hot, but having seen Matt on the same week in Hairspray, i don't think he comes close. Just my opinion. Matt blew me away in Hairspray, Richard was just good in Aida.
Take care

I have to trust that the casting people at "Hairspray" know what they are doing, since they did a phenomal job of casting the tour and the Broadway replacements. I've seen both productions and can't wait to see the Broadway company and it's new replacements next month.
Richard looked very tan compared to Matt in the pictures from Matt's good-bye party, but I still think he's good looking.

I'm going to give these guys a while to get comfortable in the roles before I go again. When Kerry, Corey, Laura Bell, etc all left I saw the replacements the first week they were there and I was pretty disappointed, but now I think they're comfortable and confident and wonderful. I can't deny Ive got a bias on this one but I think I can still know a good performance when I see one. The people Ive talked to whove seen it already have all basically said it isnt the same.
