Eh, I'm pretty sure that Antonique Smith will play Mimi in the film anyway.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in all of this....

Cast Call USA (who had posted the breakdown on that first link) is a seriously shady casting operation which charges actors for information that is--more often that not--
1) dated/obsolete
2) roles already cast, frequently by big names
3) easily accessible for free from a variety of other sources.

...so I wouldn't place too much stock in them. That said, it's possible that it's legitimate. Wouldn't Larson's estate have some control over this?

See what a good audition can do? Change the race of a character!

Further proof that the race of the characters really has nothing to do with anything. Arguing about it is pretty damn shallow.

Now, I will say that I'd find it disappointing if the cast was mostly white. Racial diversity is part of the idea of Rent. (Whatever I think of that.) But changing around the races of the characters? Who cares? Their skin color isn't what makes them who they are. Oy.
