The betting around Shubert Alley is that "Shrek" will slug it out at least until the Tony Awards in June, with a snappy number on the telecast possibly lifting the box office in the summer.

But with economists predicting this recession is just getting under way, I'm not, shall we say, "a believer" that a bump from the Tony telecast is going to be enough to salvage a $30 million kiddie show.

Good for Kevin Chamberlin for setting him straight on the ADDAMS FAMILY score.

"Winning a Tony this year is like winning Best Attendance in third grade: no one will care but the winner and their mom."
-Kad

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Amazing that in the midst of a correction, he STILL gets something wrong: Andrew Lippa, not Adam.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Although I've heard many good things about this production that makes it more than a worthwhile way to while away a few hours, I'm not really surprised by the lackluster sales. As an adult, I've seen Lion King, Chitty, Tarzan and Mary Poppins. Although they may have their merits, I just couldn't bring myself to spend the funds for another kid-show. I apologize upfront to those who may feel insulted but I swear, I won't sit through another Disney (type) production (sorry Dreamworks) until after they take home the Pulitzer.

we saw this show last night for KNOB with my four kids
ranging in ages from 9-15. it is nice to see something for
everyone.
That being said, it wasnt worth the money even with the free tickets. the scenery and costumes, cast were great.
but the first act was fun, the second act dragged.
i couldnt remember any of the songs from the second act.

Who cares about Riedel? He would have us believe that NOT ONE of the family oriented musicals which opened on Bdwy in the past 20 years was worthy of family attendance, with the possible exception of Lion King. I don't understand why the critics lambast every single show that comes to town that might be suitable for children and family audiences. Where do they think that tomorrow's audiences are going to come from? Families would get bored of a steady diet of Lion King. If it were up to the critics only shows that reflected a Sondheim influence, were shamelessly silly extravaganzas (Spamalot, The Producers), edgy rock shows (Spring Awakening, Passing Strange), or else brilliant revivals of already acknowledged classics (Gypsy, South Pacific), need show up.

Spring Awakening, edgy? Hardly.
