It's not a punishment to the show. The individual creative and performer categories would be unaffected. Best Musical is an award that goes to the producers. Why award the Kagans for poor producing choices? They brought negative press to their production and angered their coproducers and investors. That's not good producing and that behavior doesn't deserve a trophy.
