Riedel's Tony Predictions

Is there a rule stating that the nominating comittee absolutely MUST fill the 5th Best Actress slot with a nomination?

Why not go with 4 nominees? To nominate Julia Roberts not for her work, but for her stardom, could be seen as an insult to the other nominees.

Reading that list of names I can see why Juke Box Musicals don't fare well.
I don't see Dana Ivey shaking her Bootee at Mamma Mia.
Or Nancy Ford either.
At least a few retirees are gettin something to do.
Maybe Chita: A Dancer's Life does have a shot at the fourth space.

Well, there are actually a few on that list who are in their 30s and 40s.

There are about 7 or 8 names I'm not familiar with, so I can't give you an answer. But of the ones I do recognize, at least 6 are under 50.

Of course, I would expect it to get nominated. Not sure if it will though. But Jersey Boys seems like an "older" jukebox musical. Whereas All Shook Up seemed aimed for like tweens and teenagers.

"to answer calvin's question i think the revival of nine took up 3 featured actress slots (jane krakowski, mary stuart masterson, chita rivera) they might have had 4 i can't recall but i think they were the most."

Wasn't Laura Benanti nominated also?

Laura Benanti didn't get a nomination unfortunately, curiously the actresses from the Nine revival who got nods got them for the same roles the actresses in the original production got theirs.
