The females singers were good, they are not Amy Spanger, but very good nevertheless.
"The View is not BWW, that would criticize every single note the sing... "
Wait... isn't the POINT of singing to HIT the notes? At least half of them? Or would that rob this show of it's "fun"?
P
I don't see what's so bad about the performance. I enjoyed it. And Savannah Wise runs circles around Amy Spanger.
Savannah was great, but I think Amy is outstanding.
Agree - Amy is a force of freaking NATURE and anyone will pale in comparison to her. That only adds to the disappointment I felt with this performance by her replacement.
Amy was the best Roxie besides, PERHAPS, Sandy Duncan who's chemistry with Ruthie Henshall in the 10 performances or so they actually got to share before Sandy broke her leg were as good as I'd imagine Gwen and Chita were in the roles. Amy, opposite Stephanie Pope, literally OWNED the show. I have NEVER seen a better "Roxie", and I LOVE Ruthie's (remember she played Roxie in the West End and Velma on Bway) version. And "Come To Your Senses" in TTB is a masterclass in performing a pop song/power ballad in a musical. And REEFER MADNESS is just plain FUN. And sexy as hell too.
I hope her next project is something worthy of her *many* talents and I feel bad that it seems like her personal life and vocal issues are taking her away from the stage more and more.
P
Yup, I agree P. She might not be on Bway again for awhile.
I guess I was fortunate to see her in Drama Desk nominated performance in The Wedding Singer 5 times, and in Webber's Sunset Blvd.
And we still have her recordins from TWS, Tick Tick Boom!, Rock of Ages and Kiss Me, Kate. She is a gem, she has a charisma that is not often seen, a real triple threat.
But going back to the topick, Constantine was fabulous during the interview and you can tell how wonderful he is. He admitted that while he was on AI his father was very sick but he never wanted to make it public nor won the competition out of pitty from the voters.
The performance was just fine. I don't think anyone sounded tired, I'm sad I won't have time to see the show while in NYC, but thrilled that the show is a big success.
It's one of those shows that you can be enjoyed by any type of demographic, not necessarily Broadway freaks though.
>>>>Amy is a force of freaking NATURE and anyone will pale in comparison to her.
Not in this show.
Both Kelli and Savannah outshine her....IMO
I'm not saying she isn't talented- this part just wasn't for her.
I've seen four Sherries.
Savannah is a good match for this role.
She's a fine dancer, powerful singer, and her acting is improving with each performance. She got a big break when Amy left. She's making the most of it.
I thought Constantine was very professional on the View. He's a good interviewee, very natural and confident.

i'm a huge fan of RoA and I thought the performance on The View was simply horrid. I took my parents to see RoA today, my mother actually hated The View performance, yet loved the performance on stage. and i agree, Savannah runs circles around Amy.

for the Matinee, yes... Katherine was on as Regina, Michael was in for Lonny, Ericka was in Katherine's track, and Becca was in as Waitress #1
I would have to agree. I saw the performance on "The View" and was very disappointed! I thought the song choices for the medley were bad, and in my opinion, would not bring anyone to the theatre to see it. ALL the voices sounded very off- key and tired.
And believe me, there are thousands of young people home in the summer watching "The View."
Savannah posted on her facebook fan page that she was sick as a dog when they shot this, so considering that she did very well. I did, however, find the staging to be rather godawful. Particularly the (purely decorative) corded mics they were stuck behind

The episode was taped last Monday, both Savannah and Constantine missed some of week end shows before the taping because they were sick. Although I did not notice any thing wrong with any of the performances, I enjoyed the entire thing, interview too. Actually I think the reason Constantine kissed all the other hosts on the cheek, but not Elisabeth, was because he was still not feeling well and did not want to get her sick.
It's hard to capture the energy of a live show on film, and the energy at The View was probably very different than it is during a performace of ROA in their own theater. That's what makes live shows seem so full of life to me, the give and take between the actors and the audience, even more so in a show that includes the audience as much as ROA does, that element is always missing when you're watching through a television screen.
