Caroline was at $725K? (In the same ball park as Spamalot?). That number would it in the top ten for Broadway for Xmas week.
HOLY CRAP!!! That's TWICE the business it did while it was on Broadway. So much for the theory that it's a non-commercial intellectual show that won't appeal to the masses.....

Posted: 1/2/05 at 10:18pmTime helps, and hindsight, too. By the time the show got to CA, the CD was out for a while and people had time to think about the show. Also, as I said before, I'm convinced that word of mouth was really improving for the show just when it closed in NY. I'm really glad it got this second chance.

Posted: 1/2/05 at 10:56pmIs the show part of the subscription series at the Ahmanson? That would prop up the ticket sales. No matter what, I'm glad to see that people are seeing the show. Maybe this will encourage a longer tour and/or more regional productions.

Posted: 1/2/05 at 11:00pmThe Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles has a very large subscription audience (probably bigger than Lincoln Center Theatre). This. no doubt, helped with the grosses not to mention the fact that all of the LA papers gave the show enthusiastic reviews. CAROLINE, OR CHANGE was much better received in LA than it was in NYC. Hope it gets the same reaction when it moves to San Francisco this week.
