Rob Marshall's NINE to be showcased on ABC TV shows!

ABC, DISNEY and THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY are going to be heavily marketing Rob Marshall's upcoming film-adaptation of the musical NINE in the next few weeks.

Here are upcoming TV showcases for the film (not including the upcoming talk show appearances from several members of the film's cast):

Tuesday November 17, 2009: ABC TV'S DANCING WITH THE STARS -- a themed dance number set to "Be italian". Dancers will also wear outfits from the film.

Sunday November 22, 2009: a 2-minute trailer will run simutaneously "road block" style on Lifetime, ABC Family, SoapNet, A&E and Bio. That same night, the trailer is set to run on ABC TV during the American Music Awards.

A half-hour 'making of' featurette will also be viewable online at ABC.com. Date: TBA.

Throughout the month of December, NINE will be written into episodes of the following ABC TV soap operas: ALL MY CHILDREN, ONE LIFE TO LIVE and GENERAL HOSPITAL.

I read about this earlier in the week and find it really exciting. It also means that the Weinsteins trust the film enough to promote it this way. I think this is going to be a truly successful enterprise.

And the entire music video and MP3 for "Cinema Italiano" hits the internet sometime after midnight tonight according to the official blog.

I'd bump my thread on this but I fear bk would show up to attack the OP (again) and continue to try to kill the excitement (again) and I like Brody too much to let that happen.

I hate it when full numbers start appearing online, the temptation is too great to resist but I want to be surprised when I see the movie. The more I listen to clips of "Cinema Italiano" the more I love it, so it'll be hard to resist listening to the MP3. Ugh.
I'm really looking forward to the trailer that will play next week (I assume is a brand new one and not the one I've already memorized from so many times I've played it).

I hate when they do this. They keep everything tightly under wraps. Then they over-saturate you with images and clips so by the time the movie comes out you feel like you've already seen most of it.

The Cast of NINE: Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Kate Hudson, will be on OPRAH this Wednesday, November 18 2009. Since Oprah is sydnicated, check your local listings for air times as the show airs at different times in different cities.

I know you're older than twelve, so stop behaving like a twelve-year-old. bk has never tried to kill the excitement for Nine or anything else. bk attacked no one, as you well know - it was you who did the childish attacking. bk is looking forward to the film and not allowing hype to get in the way. That is what bk is doing.

That's Rob Marshall for ya. He always pays homage to the original Broadway productions. CHICAGO is basically a carbon-copy homage to Bob Fosse's original staging. Too many to list but those familiar with Bob Fosse's original CHICAGO know which is which and what is what.

I'm sure Rob Marshall will not only pay heavy homage to Tommy Tune's original Broadway production of NINE but also Federico Fellini's 1963 film 8 1/2, which inspired NINE.

Unfortunately, many on this board are too young to have seen the original so they will be comparing this film adaptation of NINE to the recent Broadway revival, so references to the original 1982 production will soar over their heads. Same thing happened with the 2002 film-version of CHICAGO -- many were comparing it to the current 'concert-style' revival not knowing anything about Bob Fosse's original staging.

I agree, Brody. With that being said, the majority of the true fans of NINE have the ability to see the original production and revival whereas any fan of CHICAGO only had the revival or Marshall's Long Beach Civic Light Opera production to compare it to. In comparison, all that remains of the original stage production of CHICAGO are the pictures, TV commercial length press reel and talk show performances from that time.

Whatever it takes to make it the best it can be is fine with me, and it is implicit in the contract for NINE and CHICAGO that Marhsall can take any elements of 8 1/2 or either Broadway production of NINE so I'm glad he is mixing it up. If it works, it works.

These pics certainly work for me!

Pgenre, grow up. Eat this, Bruce? Please point out to me (as I've asked you REPEATEDLY to do) one word of one post wherein I said anything negative about this film. I said only that I hoped it wasn't as cutty as it seemed in the two clips I saw. The End. But, more importantly, are you now going to reference me in every post you make, accuse me of things I never said, because you find it necessary to behave like a petulant five-year-old (twelve was being too kind)? You'll want to stop right now - that's my advice. I suggest you heed it. You want to keep these threads on topic, then stop trying to inflame at every turn. You look more than idiotic when you do so.

I do think this is a bit much... I mean they're infiltrating my beloved soaps AMC and OLTL (though the way they've "integrated" products in the past on those shows it will probably just be forced mentions like "Oh we went on a date and saw Nine and LOVED it")

PGenre, I actually didn't realize "true fans" had the ability to see the original Nine... I will have to investigate.

Yes. Thankfully someone captured quite nicely an entire performance of the original 1982 Broadway production of NINE at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rodgers Theatre). I was watching it earlier. What a surreal experience to watch Raul Julia and the original ladies AND Tommy Tune's staging. No words can describe being able to watch Anita Morris' goofy and sexy Carla maneuvoring that insanely hot slinky body of hers on that square cube/box for her "A Call from the Vatican" number. INSANE! And that see-thru jumpsuit -- I-N-S-A-N-E!

I can't wait for this movie! I'm totally a NINE and 8 1/2 virgin, so this movie will be the first time I've seen or heard anything related to subject matter. It should be exciting.
