What has he been doing lately? I know he was originally supposed to play The Wizard in Wicked but he didn`t want to leave his family in LA (I bet he feels stupid now! lol) But what`s he been doing lately?

Whatever he is doing, I hope it is successful. He is a truly unique talent.

No. He didn`t go because he didn`t want to leave his family in LA! (I beleive it was LA)
re: Robert Morse#5
Posted: 7/2/06 at 5:09pmI recall that several of his last appearances onstage can only be described as erratic.

Posted: 7/2/06 at 5:42pmHe was also replaced in the Showboat revival - he played Cap'n Andy in Toronto but was not brought to Broadway.
re: Robert Morse#8
Posted: 7/2/06 at 6:21pmHe WAS let go from WICKED. The producers allowed him to leave with dignity and say that he chose to leave for personal reasons, but he was fired, along with several other cast members.

melissa errico fan - Are you sure? Was he bad? I remember hearing a clip and he was great!
I LOVE Joel Grey but I would`ve rather Robert be the Wizard!
re: Robert Morse#12
Posted: 7/2/06 at 10:43pmI saw him as the Wizard, and I'm afraid that I was rather uncomfortable and embarrassed during his numbers. There was a lot of awkward soft-shoe going on, and it just didn't work. That's not to say that he hasn't been great in other things, but in that role, well...

Posted: 7/2/06 at 10:44pmHow did he do "Wonderful" ?
re: Robert Morse#14
Posted: 7/2/06 at 10:48pmWell, this was a few years ago, but as I said, lots of awkward soft-shoe. It was sort of hat-and-cane-like. I know that number is sort of that way, but it all just felt... awkward. That's the best word I can come up with to describe it.

Robert Morse is a peculiar type. Very Talented..but very hard to cast. Look at his early films... OH DAD, POOR DAD; THE LOVED ONE.
No one else could do those roles...but how many roles are there out there for someone like him?

Posted: 7/3/06 at 12:18amBen called me last night, turns out he hates you too.

I thought the same thing, everythingtaboo.
Adn Ben is one of my faovirte wizards, he actually understood the role.
George Hearn was the best though, IMO. I saw him twice and the first time he was losing his voice and sounded liek Sweeney Todd which was scary. I saw him again and he was awesome!

Posted: 7/3/06 at 1:09amI'm personally glad we got Joel. Legend who helped top off a cast of high notables that got the ball rolling here in NYC. Gotta thank him for that. Luckily they were able to maintain that theatrically famous Wizard touch with Ben and George!!

Again, I must ask: Why the accent marks in place of apostrophes?
WHY?

"The producers allowed him to leave with dignity"
Isn't that the same thing that happened to poor Miss O'Hara in "Valley of the Dolls"?
Anyway, I saw Robert Morse as the Wizard, twice, and he was fine. He was given a dull song to sing and did the best that could be done with it.

Posted: 7/3/06 at 8:37amRobert Morse was a major star in the 60s after some successful stage and film work, particularly "How to Succeed..." He, by his own admission, let stardom go to his head and that, coupled with a tendency to drink, caused him to be a very unreliable performer. His comeback performance in "Tru" (for which he won a very deserved Tony Award) seemed to mark his journey back. But sadly, his performances in the Toronto "Show Boat" were again so erratic that Hal Prince left him with the Toronto production while the rest of the principals moved to Broadway. And it seemed to have happened again with "Wicked." He is an extremely gifted performer who just can't seem to wrestle his demons consistently.
