Does anyone know of any good rock or punk covers of showtunes?
not a showtune but you gotta hear Sid Vicious' version of My Way. Classic.
Not a real recording, but during live U2 concerts, Bono usually sings part of "Send in the Clowns" during "Electric Co." (and he sang part of "America" during "Bullet the Blue Sky" at one concert)
This is a great album.

Alice Cooper's version of JET SONG and Todd Rundgren's SOMETHING'S COMING (both from West Side Story, of course) are pretty damn good.
The first time I saw THE MUSIC MAN, I was surprised to larn that TILL THERE WAS YOU was not originally done by the Beatles!

There are some good covers of "Heaven on Their Minds" from JCS. I think The Who may have done a version.
um i thi nk its less than jake maybe who did some grease song....i have the song somewhere, im just not exactly sure where...but u could prolly search for it
I was raised on the Gimme Gimmes. Literally, my brother was a punk and that's what we did our chores to. There are whole albums, by various punk bands of Grease and Rocky Horror. I think they are called "Greased" and "Rocky Horror Punk Show" but i am not sure.

omg the Gimme Gimmes. Now there is a GREAT band. I live on them!! <333
I was shocked how much I enjoy the Gimme Gimmes cd. A terrifically fun listen!
The CD is entitled, "Are a Drag" and performed by Me First & The Gimme Gimmies. Highlights include, "Over the Rainbow", "Favorite Things", "Rainbow Connection", "Tomorrow", and "What I Did For Love." It is a pretty enjoyable CD for something completely different to listen to...
Lemonheads = Frank Mills
Mettalica has "America" as a riff on one of their songs.
