Are you gearing up for your local community, college or professional Rocky Horror event?
I wanted to compare what one Rocky experience is like to another, since I've only been involved with mine for seven years now.

Just so everyone knows they are doing Rocky Horror at CAP(Cultural Arts playhouse) in Plainview NY starting on 9-26 and running thru (I think) 10-17 most of the shows are at Midnight but I think their are 1 or 2 3PM shows.
I LOVE Rocky horror
Anyone know if they are going to show the movie on Long Island?
I know they do it every week on 23rd street in NYC (I went twice over the summer and LOVED it).
Rocky Horror is AWESOME

I have a question
I've been going to Theater shows all my life and I know that it is NOT acceptable to yell out things during live shows.
I was wondering since Its Rocky Horror and people yell things at the movie if It would be acceptable to yell things during the stage show? I would think not as much but like IDK where to draw the line?
Thanks
Sorry if this is a totally un-acceptable question

Posted: 9/19/09 at 12:39amAt a live performance of the Rocky Horro stage show, callbacks are sitll customary. The Narrator, in particular, tends to interact back and heckle the audience as well. The rule of thumb is that if they don't tell you NOT to callback, it's encouraged.

taylor, are we gonna do RHPS? We had discussed it at one point
Though i do disagree about the live vs. film. If you get a good cast, the callbacks are even better live than film. I miss the Broadway revival
They had some great reactions and interactions.

Posted: 9/19/09 at 12:57pmI LOVED the 2000 revival -- saw it several times and had a ball. Ashamed to admit that I never saw the movie in the theatre -- sounds like a fabulous event.

Posted: 9/19/09 at 1:00pm*gasp* get thee to a moviehouse! I've been participating in Rocky Horror shadowcasts for two years now (but I've been going to the show for over five years), it's awesome.

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl
"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

Anybody in the Louisville, KY area, our local theater company, Pandora Productions is doing Rocky starting in just a few days.

They always have great productions and I am very excited about going. I actually bought tickets for the first week, so that if it is as good as I think it is going to be I can go a couple of times!

I *wish* there were Rocky Horror events near me.
I would give my left arm to have seen the Broadway revival. Daphne Rubin-Vega and Raul Esparza in the same show would be enough for me to die happy.

Aw, this makes me miss my production from this summer... playing Columbia was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life (especially when we had an incredibly talented and incredibly attractive Australian actor playing Frank'N'Furter). That's what my avatar is from, its me during my Time Warp solo. I cried for so long when the show was over!
Gosh, I would have killed to see the 2000 cast: Alice Ripley, Raul Esparza, Daphne Rubin Vega, Joan Jett all in the same show... I'd die! Except I was 5 in 2000, not quite appropriate.

Posted: 9/22/09 at 3:02pmLeia, I'm with you! The 2000 revival was the first Broadway show I ever saw more than once. Everyone was great in it (with one glaring exception that I won't mention by name so I don't get hunted down with torches and pitchforks...). Was at the first Sat night preview, and made Dick Cavett lose it (though I doubt it was hard to do that early in the run). When he said, "It's true, there were dark storm clouds" and my friend and I yelled out, "Describe Oprah Winfrey's breasts", he stopped, looked down at us, looked back as his crib cards, realized there was nothing he could do, put his head in his hands and continued on with his line, "Heavy, black and pendulous."

Posted: 9/22/09 at 3:17pmI think it depends on the production whether or not they encourage audience participation. I think it can hinder a decent production, and I prefer just seeing the show. When I want the callbacks I'll go to the movie.

#19re: Rocky Horror season is coming...
Posted: 9/22/09 at 3:53pmIt being genius doesn't mean it was made well.

Posted: 9/22/09 at 3:57pmJoe and TheatreFan, you are both right...the movie is genius...but trying watching it without the audience...I yawned after the first five minutes, and it didn't egt much better later...

Posted: 9/22/09 at 4:02pmThis is a debate that's as old as the movie itself. I think on its own, it IS a decent movie that's fairly faithful to its origins.
