Re: Putting him in for "review night" to get "better" reviews
Not like it matters a ton at this point. I know a girl who wanted to go to a Saturday night performance in December and it's already sold out, or so she says. People who were willing to shell out $400 already have. And we all know that critical reviews can't always predict the so called success of a show. Hello, WICKED... It's hard to say how bad of shape he's really in so I'd hate to see this cortisone shot thing happen if he's truly badly hurt. I saw the show in Seattle and loved him in the role, it'll be too bad if he ends up being out for a long time.
Unless the reports are making up what happened to him, it is really serious. It said it was a lower back injury. To me, that is the worst that it gets. I wouldn't be surprised that they go the morphine route. It comes in patches now. It works a lot better than cortisone which is very limited in how far it can reach. He'll probably be able to fake it but it makes you kind of woozy. In severe pain though, he will act better than without it.
It's just stuff like that only tricks your brain into thinking it doesn't hurt that bad. So you will continue to strain your back and maybe even throw it out because you don't realize what you are doing is just too much for your body to bear. He's a big guy.
It's his choice to make though. We will see how long he can last. Not resting will probably mean it won't heal right and give him a lifetime of suffering. So very sad.
Just because it's a lower back injury doesn't mean it's damning his existence. Yes, he has a herniated disc, but the severity of this varies. My aunt herniated a disc about a month ago. However, she did not herniate it bad enough (even though it was caused due to erratic movement-- as I assume Roger's was as well) to where she was out of submission for months. She was on her back for about 2-3 weeks tops and now she's good as new.
I guess my point being that despite it being a back injury, it doesn't necessarily mean it's a HORRIFIC injury. I'm sure it's bad, but none of us can say for sure just how bad it is.
I just wish health and fast healing for Roger. I think that's all any of us can ask for.
The reviews will be the reviews regardless of who is playing the leads. Like a previous poster (sorry for not remembering your username offhand) had said, the reviews are not everything. There's a ton of sold out performances. Plus, the show has so much word-of-mouth that it will attract people despite what they've heard about it. That's how The Producers was towards the end, as well. It was old news, but it had it's weekend where tourists FLOCKED to it just because they knew the title.
