Where's Patti? Doing far more work in concerts such as Candide, Passion and the annual Sondheim show at Ravinia as well as touring Matters of the Heart. Patti's been working far more than Betty.
Betty was by far the best Norma I saw in Sunset Boulevard and I would love to see more of her. Even if she is a difficult diva, it never stopped other difficult divas from getting work either, so I'm not so sure that is the problem. It could be that she doesn't want to go back to doing eight shows a week or maybe that there hasn't been a show on Broadway in a while that suited her or that she was interested in. I would love to see her as Mama Rose (though she has played it on Broadway before). I don't know if she's played it before, but I also think she would be a good Anna in The King and I, Joanne in Company, Miss Hannigan in Annie, Mona in Whorehouse (she is from Texas, after all), Charlotte in Falsettos, Mrs. Johnstone in Blood Brothers, Pennywise in Urinetown or Nancy in Oliver. Call me crazy, but I also think she could tackle Callas in Master Class.
