where she will speak part of a song and then starts singing and it sounds like someone different entirely.
That doesn't really mean anything. Look at someone like Kristin Chenoweth. When you hear her speak do you think she'll be capable of singing the way she can?
Um...I don't think that's the Grand CAnyon. It's just a random desert formation in Santa Fe.
And it's GOD AWFUL - and there were audible laughs at my screening. (Press?)
Don't get me wrong, there are truly some really wonderful moments in the movie.
The huge smount of voices on the title song is very cool. Telsey must have hired everyone they've called back 10 or more times for the show!
Jesse L Martin kinda steals the show for me-there's something so warm about him that no one else on screen seems to have. La Vie Boheme-very fun on film. I'll Cover You was simple and really sweet.
The Grand Canyon? awkward. One Song Glory with the flashback sequence? really awkward. Aisha de Haas just saying "Artists" instead of "Mother F--kin Artists?" a travesty.
She was not a believable homeless woman.
Jessie Martin came across as the best because he's the only one that chose to make anything of his drab material.
This screenplay NEEDED to be more substantial. Some sort of words between Angel and Collins, maybe? SOMETHING. ANYTHING.
I actually agree...there was no screenplay. I don't know if it's because they didn't want to change Jonathan's words or if they were too lazy to try to come up with something else.
At first I thought maybe it's because I know the show well and it sounded strange not being sung, but no...friends who didnt know the show at all thought it was odd too.
And as for Collins and Angel-if they'd given them too much to do then someone might (heaven forbid) think it's a gay movie. As it is, they are the only people you care about, but their story is so glossed over, you barely even do that.
I don't think it had to do with them being gay, just bad direction.
Because, GOD FORBID we feel something for any of the characters.
I'm begining to feel like these negative reviews are like, "I hated it, EVERYONE with me hated it, we ALL laughed" and people like me who loved it are all, "the audience ate it up!" It's very odd. I...still don't see the issues Munk and Cam are bringing up ::sigh::
I'm pretty sure it's her, they may have just touched up her voice more then they did for the others.
I think that Rosario did a great job on the soundtrack, but yes, she definitely does sound digitally enhanced at points. Most obviously in Another Day during her solo verse:
"The heart may freeze
Or it can burn
The pain will ease
If I can learn..."
Especially on "learn." I mean, that may not actually be the case, but it definitely does have a digitized sound to it.
I don't mind, though... of course they're going to fix it if it's not perfect. From everything I heard, her acting is great, so I can deal with a few digital touchups here and there.
That... thing is actually in Santa Fe. Really.
Is the Grand Canyon in Santa Fe? No. It's not the Grand Canyon, nor is it supposed to be. It's just a random cliff. And yes, I'm sure I'm going to laugh at it. I'm sorry, but he looked ridiculous in the clip of it on the trailer.

It is kind of weird how polarizing Rent is.
Why don't people get worked up over Chicago and Ragtime?

I am sure I'll giggle a bit at the cliff too. I saw it on the trailer and snickered a little bit. Honestly, how cheesball cliched can you get with that?
With his arms spread out like he can fly, and his hair blowing in the wind.
It looked like a commercial, and I'm going to love it in the completely wrong way.
Emcee that kind of sounds like Britney Spears "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" video.
Oh god, Adam as Britney
That's what EVERYONE has been saying. Last night, while I was waiting to get in (unsuccessfully) my friend was singing Britney's song, and I died a little.
I'm going to cry tears of shame. And then crawl under my seat.
After I laugh.
I wonder what he thought of it!
Munks the only one who brought up Britney. That comment still irked me in the worst way. I thought of a commercial, yes, but Britney did not enter my mind. It's not THAT bad.
The soundtrack sounds great. I'm listening to "Light my Candle" right now. I don't think Rosario is bad at all. Even if she was dubbed, wouldn't they have made an announcement or something?

I personally don't get how someone can ask the question at all. I think Rosario's singing voice sounds similar enough to her speaking voice that there really isn't any question whether or not it's her.
Whether she's been touched up is another discussion, though I'm sure she was and the rest of the cast likely was as well.
Yeah, I'm kinda sad that no one commented on my post... DOES her voice sound like they've done something to it in Another Day, or am I imagining things?
I am going to try to listen to clips of the soundtrack on Amazon! Because...clearly a studio voice is different then a "broadway" voice (live)...it shouldn't be but...thats a different story. So if Rosario sounds a little different on the soundtrack...I am sure it was for the better.
But if the soundtrack is pretty cool, ...I will cop it.
Not to discourage you from buying the soundtrack by any means, but a lot of the full songs are up on the movie website's media player:
http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/rent/audioplayer/
It would just be easier to preview the soundtrack there than using the 30 second clips on Amazon.
The cast, the director, and the Larson's all think she's great.
So do I, and so do many others who have seen the film.

The part in "Another Day" sounds more like she is holding her toungue in the back of her throat that it being digitized. Like, she is swallowing it ir something, but what ever it is, it BUGS me. I still enjoy her though.

Excuse me. *Raises hand.*
I saw the film. Yes, her voice sounds a bit digitalized in parts - but for the most part, it's not too bad. Her acting is phenomenal, her singing fairly good. Please PLEASE see the movie before you criticize - you may change your mind. Besides -her singing is far better than Daphne's ever was - I would rather hear Rosario's slightly digital but pleasant voice over Daphne's scratchy, raspy voice anyday. Listening to Daphne makes my vocal cords cringe.
does this mean she's not really singing when they do the shows appearances? remember that awful appearance on regis? they should atleast teach her how to stand to make it look like she's trying to sing
