I like them both and Rose's Turn is a classic. But if I have to pick, it would be Lot's Wife.

The two songs differ so much!

I've always felt Rose's Turn was more easy for the ears as it is sexy, diva-like and offers a wide range of emotions, from mocking to anger, to bitterness. On the diva range, Rose's Turn definitely wins.

But for Lot's Wife, the lyrics, and the mutil-layered meanings are just so captivating and brilliant that it amazes me what a great lyricist Kushner is! The allusion to Lot's wife from the bible that isn't talked much, to the line 'Turn me to salt, a pillar of salt'. The whole thing just gels up leaving me feel the raw emotions that Caroline must be feeling. Sure, Rose's Turn has that effect, but Lot's Wife has a consistent effect throughout the entire song that lacks in Rose's Turn that starts off more as a burlesque number.

So, for lyrics, I would give it to Lot's Wife.

As for music, I think both are amazingly terrific. I was thinking that Rose's Turn has a greater melody, but I'd rather give it a tie as Lot's Wife strong agressive music is simply chillingly marvellous, and the fact that it ends softly, it brings a sense of loss and sadness, making the entire song more emotional.

So, I guess I sound like I prefer Lot's Wife. But come on, if you want to go diva and all, Rose's Turn wins hands down any day as it is a song that has the singer wanting for herself. But Lot's Wife is more on the self-sacrificial part. So yep, I think my final decision would be that music and lyrics goes to Lot's Wife, but on a performance level, both sings are equally on par.

Rose's Turn. I know the two may seem similar (though there is a large book scene after Lot's Wife and Gypsy pretty much ends with Rose's Turn) but they coudn't be different. Rose's Turn is a musical mental breakdown (per Sondheim). While Caroline goes through a lot, I wouldn't call it a breakdown by any means.

"Defying Gravity"!!!!!!!!

Oh, wait, that wasn't on the ballot. hehe

I'd have to agree that they're both genius. Both of these characters, though totally different from one another, singing songs that couldn't be further from each other in style, are going through an exorcism of sorts.

I got chills when I saw Bernadette Peters sing "Rose's Turn," and I got chills when I saw Tonya Pinkins sing "Lot's Wife."

Love them both, greatly!

Bernadette Peter's ROSE'S TURN.

LOT'S WIFE is pretty terrible.

I think Lot's Wife is terrific, but nothing compares to Rose's Turn. It's genius.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
