Was Rosie O’Donnell supposed to be in the OBC of Mamma Mia? What happened to that? I was watching a video where she was playing coy in an old Rosie ODonnell show episode. I was curious if anyone had some inside information what happened? I’m assuming she was being considered for the role Judy Kaye was cast in

She was at the top of the list for the role of Rosie but she was only interested in the lead role of Donna. The producers were adamant on keeping Louise Pitre, who successfully led the tour prior to Broadway, so both parties moved on. On his talk show with his sister Marie, Donny Osmond asked Rosie if she was returning to Broadway when MAMMA MIA! made its Broadway debut in October 2001 and she didn’t confirm nor denied anything, which of course fueled a short fire of rumor news.
