Posted: 3/29/05 at 2:25pmI think this would be great...with or without the original cast. You have to remember that Bare is Bare....the show is the show....it wasnt written for that cast...and if you feel strongly enough that it should remount..you cannot stress having the ATA cast back to Rosie..or she wont want to do it. Stress that the show itself deserves to run. Besides...Michael Arden is def available.

Reasons why "Bare" should be produced:
- The show's content is extremely important and deserves a chance to be heard. It portrays the struggles that many high schoolers go through on a daily basis. It explores themes like self-esteem, image, sexuality, stereotyping, etc. It's not just a "gay drama". Each one of the five main characters- Ivy, Jason, Peter, Nadia, and Matt- are people who I KNEW in high school. Like, by the end of the show, I was at the point where I was saying, "That was so-and-so..." and "Doesn't she remind you of...?" THAT'S why it's important. It's important for its portrayal of homosexuality, sure... but it's also SO much more than that. It gives a voice to characters, to real-life demographics, to PEOPLE, that might not have one otherwise. And it shows audience members who identify with those characters that they are not alone.
- It presents issues that might be difficult for said high schoolers and their parents to accept in a relatively accessible light. The characters are well-defined and realistic. They are relatable. Their struggles are relatable. It's important that songs like "Warning" show BOTH sides of the story. On a similar note...
- The music and lyrics are modern and relevant to a very wide spectrum of listeners. "Bare" has a very respectable score that is an asset to the contemporary musical theatre canon while appealing to a mainstream audience, as well. As much as people hate this comparison, it is similar to "Rent" in this regard. There is no denying it. It just IS.
- If marketted correctly, the show could be a hit with the tourist crowd as well as with the NYC theatre elitists. This isn't another "Taboo" or "The Normal Heart". Like those two shows, "Bare"'s content is risky; however, HERE, that content is presented in a very user-friendly package (WITHOUT being glossed-over, either). This is not to mention the fact that "Bare" has already developed a substantial fanbase.
I've got to run, but I'll add more later. Because there are a LOT of reasons why this show should be mounted again. Whether or not this will actually happen is another story.
But, hey- write a letter. What the hell could it hurt? :)

Someone needs to type this up in a letter (sorry I'm being extremely lazy today!)
Either that or someone needs to write it up as a letter and start a petetion that we can just send the entire petition to rosie.

Posted: 3/31/05 at 12:17amwell as long as she gets it...there is more of a chance if more people send it, but if she does get the one letter, she will see that many people want to see this show take off.

Posted: 3/31/05 at 9:02pmI'm sure Rosie is well aware of the benefits of this show on an emotional and cultural level and I'm sure that she'd love to help the cause as she's done so graciously with other causes. However, there needs to be some reassurance that this show would not be a complete financial flop. Sure, Bare has plenty of fans within the theatre community but it can't run on that alone. Not for long. In an age where theatre is slowly slipping out of the pop-culture mainstream, there would need to be a strong marketing campaign to turn the public on to a fantastic show such as Bare. Personally, I think that Bare's music and fast-paced style might make it a great candidate for a movie. That would also enable it to reach a larger audience and maybe even get people talking about gay rights and issues. Just hope that they're having the right conversation instead of the one that Bush and the radical right-wing are trying to incite.

Posted: 3/31/05 at 9:10pmon the contrary, i think that Bare would do fine on its own. I mean no one ever heard about it until after it closed, but it did fine in Cali.

I didn't see the LA production, but I got a buddy who did and they fell in love with it in just the same way.
Honestly, my personal opinion is to just start all over again. Get Rosie to fund it, get someone to fund it, but try to keep that steam going. Throw it back into LA for a few months, let it pick up it's steam again, and then keep charging. But, this time, with money.
Let Rosie accept the Tony. I'm writin' my letter now.

I can't really imagine it without Michael Arden either, but if he cant do it, than I would rather see someone else play Peter, than not seeing the show at all.
As for his CD, I dont think it is happening
