"Martha! The Musical"
but hell, as mel brooks proved, given enough comedic genius, anything can work (even "springtime for hitler")

A modern update of Puccini's La Boheme into an english rock-opera type of musical would be a terrible idea for a musical

Because I really care what other people think about my opinion of a rotten idea for a musical. What use do I have of the opinions that others have on the subject. I've seen the show and heard the recording and seen the opera. You're not gonna prove anything

cool beans, sumofallthings. you ARE entitled to your own opinion, you are absolutely right.
just stating that SOMETHING must've been right for it to be playing nearly 8 years and to win such acclaim.

I dated a guy who wanted to musicalize Triumph of the Will. Since then, he has been rejected from every grad school writing program he's applied to and still can't write his way out of a paper bag. Thank goodness that relationship was canned long ago.

Not a film, but the 'story' of We Will Rock You (the Queen musical opening this year in America) is the WORST idea for a musical you have ever heard/seen. The whole entire concept of that show will make you cry.

The four that come to mind were last season:
Adult Entertainment
Boobs The Musical
Oh and let's not forget URBAN COWBOY!
The agony song went off for each of them but i think Boobs was the worst taste.
I was also not fond of Imaginary Friends but i don't know why they added the musical numbers. The rag doll number made me cringe in pain.

Puppets are great in theater:
Fuddy Meers
Avenue Q
More shows need puppets on Broadway oh and let's not forget Audrey 2. I liked Little Shop very much.

I think you're about to be flogged like Edna in Mel Gibson's Hairspray...
I won't flog. I'll just say that Avenue Q is one of the best, brightest, wittiest, most innovative shows in years.

I actually kinda like SILENCE! The Silence of the Lambs musical. It won't let me download the songs onto a CD, though. Poop.
