Right on, Phyllis! Nobody should watch! Let the ratings sink the lowest they've ever sunk and have the Tonys canceled forever! That'll show 'em real good! How DARE they do something like this without asking US first?!?! The Tonys should be about a celebration of BROADWAY*.

Getting more people to the theater has always been part of the American Theater Wing's mission:

I think it's fine that the Tony's are showing that theatre has a life after Broadway, and that the common folk can experience it in unusual places. This is a Tony Award winning best musical- it will always have a place in the Tonys.

I avoid this place while the awards are on. Nothing takes the enjoyment of the evening away more than sharing it with some of the people here.
