It still doesn't do much for your credibility. When people really care about presentation and how they come across, that many more people actually listen.
"This thread reads like a series of White House memos." — Mister Matt
Alextroy, freedom of speech is a glorious thing, however, this is a site devoted to the love of theatre. The moderators have the right to tone down the heading of a post, they can remove any thread or post they feel is unjust.
While your opinion of DVR's performance is completely fair, your heading was harsh, and not a good way to present your feelings on her performance, or any performance. Negativity of any kind, when discussing performers should be more careful, in my opinion. This is basically a privilege to be able to voice one's opinion about performances online, but keep in mind there are many ways to express discontent with a performance. You can be constructive, or you can be abusive. The word "Horrendous" is abusive. To start a thread that way immediately negates anyone coming into this thread and have a civilized discussion about her performance, and it also slams those who actually liked her in the role (and I know many people who did like her, or at least appreciated her performance).
I applaud the moderaters for changing the very harsh thread heading, and I encourage the moderators to keep working towards more civilized discussions about performers here.
Once message board topics deteriorate into sarcasm and the rehashing of outdated comedic material (chevy chase joke, was hilarious in 1977)... that is usually a good signal that any intelligent discussion about the original subject matter has ended.
I came on this board to discuss a performance I witnessed, which I did. I had no idea that people would be so offended by the word "horrendous," and no idea that people would go to such great lengths to justify its subsequent "censorship."
I guess I will have to continue along on my way knowing that my credibility on broadwayworld.com has been tarnished. It shall be rough, thanks all for the experience.
but look out, al dente, bree daniel and all the other bway.com folks are going to be accusing you of censorship and stifling their rights to an opinion in about ten minutes.
decency and tact are two things missing from most of civilized society today and the offending posters are the greatest examples of that.
