He should totally write one. Not a jukebox musical--although including some of his songs wouldn't be bad--but he should team up with a good book writer and put something together.

I love Rufus. I think he could potenially create a very unique sounding piece. I think that an interesting idea...I like it.
If he did, people might actually be able to understand lyrics to some of songs finally, too!

Wainwright is one of the writers commissioned to do one of the musical/opera crossover pieces for the Met and LCT, along with Guettel, LaChiusa, Tesori, Scott Wheeler, and Michael Torke.

Posted: 9/1/06 at 2:01pmI think he's incredibly talented. If you listen to "The Art Teacher" it has a sort of theatricality to it, as do most of his songs. I'd love to hear his take on something. I bet it would be oustanding and artistic.

Posted: 9/1/06 at 2:04pmI would love him to write a piece. His music is theatrical and I love his lyrics. I also like the idea of him writing for other voices. I can only take his voice in small doses-his whine grates on me after a while. That being said, I still enjoy him.
