Which shows cost the least to run, and which shows cost the most to run? I would say that Rent has the lowest cost to run because of its small cast and 5 member band and it has a run down theatre. Rent also dosn't gross too much money, but seems like it will never close. I would think that Wicked and Phantom have the highest running costs. What do you think?

I think you are correct by saying Wicked costs the most to run. Including its color playbills too. I think the least costly show is Sweeney Todd though, small cast and just the cast as the orchestra.

Sweeney has low running cost's but, not as low as Rent. More than half of the people in Rent don't have Equity card's. That lower's the cost's a lot.

"Sweeney has low running cost's but, not as low as Rent. More than half of the people in Rent don't have Equity card's. That lower's the cost's a lot. "

Not true. Perhaps they didn't have Equity cards when they were hired, but they would HAVE to join the union to be in the show. There aren't any non-Equity shows on Broadway.

RENT's weekly running costs are around $360K. SWEENEY's are a bit lower than that.

"RENT's weekly running costs are around $360K"

Can you please put that in American money? I shouldn't listen to people who call themselves Rentheads, anymore.

K = 1000

$360,000 (give or take a few thousand)

I would say that Rent have the lowest running cost because their is because it is a really simple set. Wicked however Has the highest running cost becuase of all the special effects.

I guess we can expect Rent to be open for a long time to come with those low running costs

According to the Behind The Emerald Curtain tour, Wicked's weekly running costs are $800,000. Looking at Rent's running costs, I would imagine it to be higher than that.

I agree Rent probobly doesn't cost much to run. Spelling Bee can't be too expensive either. Small theatre, three maybe four people in the pit,9 people in the cast and not any huge sets, costumes, or props to maintain.

I agree. Does Spelling Bee really cost more to run than RENT?

I read Chicago is among the VERY low costs.
This is not regarding the celebrities in the show.

I wonder if Rent pays a lot less than other shows for their theatre, because the Nederlander is kind of beat up.

The Nederlander was painted to look like that for RENT. The theatre is in fine shape.

Have you looked at the ceiling in the Nederlander? It's NOT in fine shape.

I thought I read somewhere that the celebrity casting in Chicago actually doesn't pay that much at all. If they really paid them big bucks, the show probably couldn't handle it, I would think.

The ceiling of the Nederlander is made to look like that, not because it is unmaintained. That is why they have unneccessary lighting platforms and that the sign outside looks beat up, as well as the lobby. If Rent were to close something else could move into there very quickly with just a few adjustments.

I don't think the ceiling at the Nederlander is maintained very well. Once when I saw Rent, the ceiling was leaking and the two people in front of me were being dripped on.
