Posted: 6/16/07 at 8:34amA bit off topic, but my teen commented after seeing SA how peculiar it was to meet at the stage door people she had seen on stage either nude or having at themselves.

If a nine year old has already seen sexually explicit R rated movies, she already has a serious problem!
SA not appropriate for her age.

Wow! This can't happen very often. When every person in a thread AGREES?? lol
But seriously? No way in hell should you take a nine year old to Spring Awakening. You honestly should learn more about the show before you see it.

coolkid- how old are YOU?
You've been here for almost 1 year. You can't honestly tell me that you don't know what Spring Awakening is about...

Doesn't this question sound disingenous? I'd bet that Coolkid's parents said no and he or she is looking for counterarguments from this board.

Sounds like this is what it is. I totally agree.

I say go for it!
She's gotta learn about sex, masturbation, teen pregnancy, sadomasochism, abortion, and suicide somewhere. Any those swear words aren't gonna teach themselves!
On the other hand, Jonathan Groff's showers of spit might traumatize her for life!

^ But um, we usually don't learn about all those things until puberty.
Why should a 9 year old be exposed to mastubation, abortion, and suicide at that age?

Would it be ok for a 15 year old
besides the nudity what else mature is in the show?

coolkid, all aspects of the show are mature, seriously.
*possible spoilers*
from wendla wanting to know the truth about where babies come from, to serious masterbation and wet dreams and sexual fantasies, to child abuse and underlying molestation, serious school pressures, curiousity about their own bodies, very life-like simulated sex and all that goes with it, nudity, pregnancy and abortion, suicide, hiding the truth about many of these things and clueless adults.. all with R-rated language.
however; it is my firm belief that all these things are done very tastefully and all are necessary to the storyline. nothing is overdone and without need. i think that it is absolutely fine for a 15 year old, in fact i think that teens are the age group that need to see this most, after all, it was written geared towards that particular group. but just be prepared for the show before you walk in. otherwise you may be in for a shocker!
...
p.s. How do you get off asking questions like these?

Posted: 6/17/07 at 12:41amI think the score alone would scar her. And I'm not talking about the subject matter. The 59 imperfect rhymes are a start...
