SA Casting Question

I was just looking at the website and noticed that Alice Lee is a new ensemble member. It says that Jenna Ushkowitz is a swing. Why wouldn't they move up Jenna from a swing to an ensemble member before hiring a new member? I guess its the business, but I was just wondering.

I'm guessing that it has to do with what roles the two actresses cover. I know Ushkowitz covers several of the female roles, and I am sure Alice Lee will as well.

Alice took Alexandra's chair, and position as 1st Wendla cover. Jenna doesn't cover Wendla, so that is the reason why.

That may NOT necessarily be true. Jesse Swenson choose NOT to take a chair when Matt Doyle got bumped to Hanschen. He had the option to the chair and, for a variety of reasons, wanted to stay off stage.

(I do not KNOW if Jenna was offered onstage.)

BUT there is no guaranteed progression on any show.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
