SAVE LA CAGE!

I met Robert Goulet at the Drama Desk nominations.
He is charming. I loved his humor.
Especially when he got lost reading some awards.
He is adorable.
I can't wait to see him tomorrow. I have never seen him in the show.
I thought Davis was exceptional, but Divas are a pain. I can't imagine anyone not getting along with Gary Beach. Gary is a saint. I have met him several times and they don't get nicer then Gary.

I'm sure Robert Goulet is very nice. Unfortunately , he is also too old for the part he's playing. He can't remember his lines, and he has trouble moving. New York audiences know this and he killed La Cage because nobody wanted to go and watch him do so badly when they have fond remembrances of him from another era.
As for Daniel Davis, having watched him over the last couple of decades, I don't care if he is a diva (something I'm not sure of. I certainly don't believe the unconfirmed rumors placed by the producers who wanted to bring in a name for their show). If an actor does his job on stage, nothing else matters. Is La Cage the same show it was when it first opened? The answwer is NO. Goulet, even if he is nice, is horrible in it. Daniel Davis however gave the best interpretation of this role I've ever seen, and I've seen a good many, including the original cast.
I hope Daniel Davis returns to Broadway, I could see him do anything. I also hope Mr. Goulet retires while he still can retain some dinity.

I thought Davis was great in La Cage. He was also exceptional in The Frogs and the Nanny.
But, I have never met him. I have met Gary and I adore him.
I will see Goulet tomorrow and form my own opinion.

I also had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Davis in Amadeus and several shows in Williamstown, including an amazing "Three Sisters".
I can't imagine that Mr. Davis was a diva in Williamstown - Nikos Psacharopoulos would never had put up with it, and I know that Nikos respected Mr. Davis's work.

A saint? I doubt it. But I agree that he's very nice, as is Davis. I was able to meet both of them on separate occasions over the last few years. But getting along socially with someone versus in the workplace are two different things. I have worked with some people who I thought were very nice people but as coworkers they drove me crazy.

A couple of years ago, I was on the bus going to meet a blind date. I was so nervous and Gary sat down next to me.
He was so sweet and kind.
He is a Saint. Gary made me laugh and because of Gary I was no longer nervous.

So perhaps instead of a "Saint" he is your "Gaurdian Angel?"
That is such a coincidence!A couple of years ago, I was on the bus going to the Doctor for a recal exam. I was so nervous and this crazy old man sat down next to me. He then proceeded to expose himself and play with his dingaling.
He was so big and scary, but so pathetic.
He was a Saint. He made me laugh and because of this masher I was no longer nervous.

Darling Sue,
I just respect him and he made me laugh. He is a nice guy.
If only everyone was as nice as Gary, the world would be a better place.

I agree 100% Cagelles and costumes were the only good points of a TERRIBLE show.
I'm glad to see it go.

Is anyone else getting a bit tired of these "save this show!! Go and see it now, please!!" messages? "Save Dracula!", "Save Brooklyn!", "Save La Cage!". Getting old. No offence to anyone!
If the tickets to some show aren't selling well then maybe that is a sign of that most of the people who really want to see it already have seen it. So why keep a show with poor attendance-% open if it's not making - and most likely never will - any profit? Sadly, it is hard business nowadays. And as sad as it is for the extremely talented performers, it is a part of their job and a conscious risk they take. They will get over it, and so should everybody else, too.
