I guess getting a tony didn't help? Are they waiting long enough to see if ticket sales pick up?

Raising ticket prices to a show that's already not selling sounds like a stellar marketing strategy to me.

Yesterday I was literally in tears.

This show was so good, and I am absolutely devastated.

Fortunately, I will see the show's final performance on June 26th, thanks to a terrific best friend.

All of the people are so talented, and they don't deserve to have this show close.

Thanks, Corine.

Although I'm ecstatic that I'm seeing the last show, I keep moping about how it's closing.

My best friend Chelsea and I plan on bringing roses and letters for practically everyone - it's become a tradition for amazing casts and amazing shows.

I still cannot believe that it announced it was closing just a couple of days after it won the Tony for best revival. I don't think that anyone in the show deserves to be out of work, especially after showing how talented they are in this fantastic show.

Ugh. Watching the Simpsons episode where Harvey Fierstein guest stars didn't help. I just kept thinking "NO! LA CAGE CANNOT CLOSE!" while Homer lost his hair.

I think Corine meant the volume of tickets sold, not the price, sarcasmo...

The show is great and shouldnt close. Though if the Tony performance is supposed to get u to see the show, then y did they choose that number. They were originally doing We Are What We Are/ I Am What I Am but changed it and in my opinion it the number they chose showed nothing about the show and I think though it hasnothing to do with it, it could have boosted the Ticket sales.

Im sure ill get yelled at now, but y did they get rid of Davis in the first place? He was great and I dont see y they had to bring in Goulet in the first place.

Goulet is amazing and he is a bigger star than Davis...who got fired and had problems with the whole cast. The song chosen for the Tonys was great ...it was an outstanding performance.

It's always sad when a show folds, even the shows that critics/fans pan ( unfortunately, too many to list these days). But this LaCage, as talented as the cast is, is simply a show lacking resiliency in this fickle, strapped Broadway market.

Investors and other had to see this coming a few months ago. The last rush before the closing may do a lot for those who want to support it before it's gone, but it won't change the facts. I thought it was fun too. It's just not an enduring revival, imo. And today it seems most investors, producers etc. are ready to throw in the chips at the 6 mos. turning point if their shows are not showing strong signs of longevity via ticket sales, good press , etc.

Wax Lion is not as exclamative as some people, but does enjoy watching a boy in a dress perform.

Sorry, Muscle, but go read the attendance percentages and the monitary takes for the weeks before and after Easter Sunday. They say it all.
It's a shame the wonderful original cast will be out of work, but with Goulet, it just wasn't that good, and the prospective audience voted their preferences with their wallets.
Shows close all the time. That's Broadway.

I also think that we need to see quite a few decades go by before a show is officially revived for an open-end run. I saw the original production of La Cage and had zero interest in this one. Same thing with Into The Woods. Not interested in revivals as a rule as well, but I will go if the casting is of interest.

Thernardier, MojaniD is someone who saw the show and posted her opinion. I wanted to like it but I didn't. I thought the casting was a little off. Gary Beach might be a nice guy, but I found him very wrong in this role. He seemed very awkward and uncomfortable. I liked Daniel Davis a lot. The Cagelles were wonderful. Did not like Jerry Zaks direction. This is a very good show, but this current revival was 2nd rate in my opinion.

Muscle, your report on what happened to Davis is based on gossip columnist Michael Reidel who was citing unnamed
"production sources." In other words, the story is unattributable to any breathing entity unless that entity identifies itself. At the time, it served the interests of the La Cage producers whose motives through this whole extravaganza have been mystifying at best. Read the recent interviews with Michael Benjamin Washington and Gary Beach, identifiable members of the "whole cast", whose comments will put Reidel's report into question.

I do agree with you that Robert Goulet is a bigger name than Daniel Davis will probably ever be. When the curtain goes up, though, it's the performance that counts. Read Davis' reviews.
