Rockefeller Productions and Sesame Workshop have announced the world premiere of the new stage production: Sesame Street: The Musical, in New York. Sesame Street's beloved furry friends will appear in their original puppet form in an Off-Broadway musical, with previews starting September 8, 2022. Opening night is set for September 22 and will run through November 27, 2022. Performances will take place at Theater Row, 410 West 42nd Street.
Sesame Street's very own Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, Gabrielle, and a host of Honkers, Martians, and other favorites will appear onstage in their very own musical. Special guest stars from Broadway and beyond will join the gang, with the show featuring Sesame Street's classic songs--plus new numbers created especially for this production by Broadway's brightest composers and songwriters. The show is directed and produced by Jonathan Rockefeller.

I know it's a whole other thing with Disney owning The Muppets, but THIS is how a Muppet stage musical can work. Just frame it as The Muppet Show. They did a live version of the television series at a convention in the early 2000s, plus those Hollywood Bowl and London concerts.

Any idea who's writing the new songs? I know Bo Burnham was attached to write music for a Sesame Street movie.
Anyone plan on attending? Sesame Muppets are fun for all ages!

Hehehe...I'd be very curious to feed "Sesame Muppets" into one of those AI-photo generators...

My friends and I have tickets for Thanksgiving weekend - we enjoyed the Winnie the Pooh musical quite a bit, so thought this would be fun as well!

I enjoyed Winnie the Pooh and decided to give this a shot. I thought the night show would be a more adult crowd.
And then a family in the front row thought it was ok to let their 3 year old kid go on the stage in the middle of a number
which is when I realized my mistake and wished I saved my money.
