Posted: 8/8/05 at 5:28pmnot really. I've met plenty of the wicked people before the show and they were still nice. Now if it gets close to when they are supposed to be in there..then they are in a rush but i can't blame them.

Posted: 8/8/05 at 5:28pmI met her and thought she was so nice. My friend met her too. She was a sweetheart when I met her. i love Megan Hilty as well. The Broadway cast now is great.

Posted: 8/8/05 at 5:31pmWell, I was just in a National Tour and i'm not even joking i was on the road for 13 months, and taking pictures and signing autographs does get hard 8 times a week. I used to think it was rude when an actor didnt sign autographs, but now I know how tiring it gets. And now im going on another National tour but it is going to tour in Asia.

taking a pic when she's NOT looking? You do NOT have to go to that extreme! I've seen her take plenty of pictures with plenty of people. go to webshots, there's so many pictures of Shoshana and fans. This is getting blown out of proportion. She's human, we all are, cut her slack and realize signing isn't mandatory, it's optional.

Okay, before anyone get on my case I'm going to preface this by saying the following: I don't expect any actor to come out and sign at the stage door if they don't want to and I'm not going to get all upset if they don't.
Now that, that is out of the way. I've been at the Wicked stage door twice since Shoshana fully took over and both times she has been very distant and seemingly annoyed with the people there. It is my feeling that if she doesn't want to sign & take pictures (or is annoyed with doing so) then she should do what Carole Shelley or George Hearn used to do, most of the time, which was either go out a different door or have your car waiting and just go straight to it.
Lets just say that these experiences haven't helped my opinion of her.

It's not an F#, it's an F.
I'm sure the stars feel extremely pressured to come out period, so cut them some slack. It's not easy to smile, be friendly, and sign autographs to no ado. I wouldn't blame anyone if they didn't come out at all.

Aye, it is an F.
WickedGeek, you said if they can't handle the role, don't give it to them. Unfortunately, with that argument, they can handle the ROLE just fine. And the even GREATER part is that SOME performers are willing to come out of the stage door every night/afternoon. They can handle the role, but you can't expect them to have a chat with someone they've never MET, rush inside the theatre, don costume, and get out on the stage.

Posted: 8/8/05 at 7:46pmI think I might be a little peeved before the show if I had to get in the theater, get into my costume and a buttload of makeup, and warm up, etc. for a very demanding show and someone who I'd never even met was trying to talk to me and holding me up, too. That's why you talk to them AFTER the show.

exactly.
obviously if you keep going up to her pre show, she will get annoyed w/ you, who wouldn't?! it's their job to perform, not to stand there and talk to you.
they're people, with their own lives, own friends and own history. they're not machines, they have feelings too.

Posted: 8/8/05 at 7:56pmShoshana is one of the friendliest actresses on Broadway. Perfect example is her website. Leading up to her taking over the role of Elpheba and even for quite some time after she would sign onto her website after the show and stay on for about an hour answering questions that you could send in! She is extremely dedicated and grateful of her fans! I find it extremely funny that anyone would be pissed at a person for not wanting to talk before or after or not wanting to take pictures. My pretty butt would be passed out outside the stage door if I was anyone of those performers. And I know it is extremely hard to believe but these actors/actresses are PEOPLE too! Not some super man that is friendly/peppy/energetic all the time! Be happy they even come out the stage door and not sneek out another way. And treat them with respect. Just because you enjoy their performance doesn't give you the right to demand autographs or pictures. Be kind and respectful to these talented artists!

i don't normally reply to these posts discussing whether or not an actor "should" or "has to", etc. sign, pose for pics, etc.
but it seems that this keeps coming up and it's about the same people.
her job is to perform and give the best show possible. i do agree to some extent that performers should be gracious to their fans but they are people with a job just like everyone else. not to mention they are exhausted after a show, especially a 2-show day. and in addition they have lives outside of the show and maybe people catch someone when they have other things on their mind. i agree, there is no need for an actor to be mean or nasty but i also believe they don't "need" to be available for their fans.
as far as shoshana specifically goes, she has been MORE than available and kind to her fans. she responds to questions on her site, replies to fanmail, etc. and while i have heard she's not as friendly and outgoing at the stage door lately, maybe she's tired, exhausted...
just my 2cents...

Posted: 8/8/05 at 8:04pmYES! 2 days in a row this summer i went to the wicked stage door. the first night it wasn't very crowded and the second night it was. shoshana took pictures with fans and signed both nights. some people may think that she's acting cold by going down the line so fast (which she does). but i mean, she probably just wants to get home, you know? wouldn't you after belting for 3 hours? i sure would. i was very thankful that she even came out and signed at all! o, and whoever said she never takes pictures with fans is wrong, considering that i and a ton of other people have pictures with her.

ive met shoshana a bunch of times and if you keep your cool then she will be more than happy to sign, take a picture, and maybe say a few words...my suggestion is to try to be the first one she gets too cause the more she does the more rushed she gets...
hope that helps

It still puzzles me when people talk about the actors respecting them as fans. Why don;t you respect the fact that they are probably quite tired and want to go to bed?
And when did this trend of waiting for actors at the stage door begin? Why do people feel that buying a ticket to the show entitles them to a meet and greet? I'm not trying to be catty, I'm simply curious. Were people doing this back when Mermon was in Gypsy? When did this phenomenon begin?

it has happened to you with shoshana on many occasions? why keep trying?
It's not a metter of keep trying because in reality i dont care if she says hi or not because i dont really like her anyway. its because i talk to megan quite often and she is a really ncie grl and when we meet its by wicked and when sho gets there i say hi have a good show and she looks at me and keeps goin in.
I'm not expecting them to respect me as a fan, im expecting thme to respect me as a person. Besides, these instances of rudeness have been before a show. not a half hour before, but an hour and a hlaf, if u can come up with an excuse of y she couldnt say thank u to me id sure love to hear it!

Posted: 8/8/05 at 10:15pmI guess it depends on Shoshana's day...sometimes before a matinee, she's taken pics and signed stuff, and others she's sneaked behind people and ran in. So, as long as you don't scream, "Elphaba! Elphaba! Can you sign this?" I think she'll be ok. But...since people DID talk about Jennifer...I seriously think there hasn't been ONE time she's been b*tchy to anyone...she's just so sweet.

Posted: 8/8/05 at 10:25pmI never got to see Jen, she was out in Feb when I saw it, and I met her in June and she was really nice. Yea, idk what the dela is with Shoshana. I didn't scream her name, i didnt ask for a pic or autograph, all I said was "Hey, Shoshana. Have a great show!" And she looked righ tat me with this nasty look and walked in. I just didn't get it.
